This may be a thread better served for after spring or fall camp, but I’m snowed in and 3 drinks in with no work tomorrow. Now is as good a time as any.

Who are the guys you’ve got an eye on who were seemingly lost under the last staff that you have your eye on for next year?

I think easy answers are guys like Chase Smith who was buried most of the year, but flashed towards the end of the year.

Hot take: Huff finally gets a chance and flashes

*Huff transfers 1 week after post*

I wouldn’t use Smith as an example as he was a freshman breaking into the lineup.

Should be guys who have been here at least 3 years. Jordan Miller at DT. Campbell at RT and hopefully Huff

I’ve thrown in the towel on Huff and Austin-Cave. I hope I’m wrong and will happily eat crow but if neither of those guys could push for playing time last year with NOBODY else at linebacker, it ain’t happening.

Tirek Austin Cave
I concur ^^^

OL and LB I think are the obvious places to look

TAC
Clev Reed
J.Miller(has been more than a jag so that may be cheating)
Redding
Brooks

Are all candidates

Comeback candidates
Blades

I like Balom as well to make noise before he leaves, but he has some dudes in front of him.

I at least wanna see what they both look like under legitimate defensive coaches who don't play favorites or seniority

Eh, I’ll give them the opportunity to get coached up by someone else but I don’t buy the seniority stuff. Manny started three freshmen linebackers in 2016 and had no issues playing Flagg a ton last year. If neither of those guys is pushing for a starting spot after spring, shut the door on them.

You might be right but I simply refuse to believe Flagg is better than TAC. And in reference to the 2016 freshman starters, I recall that depth chart being almost completely barren so not sure Manny had any other options but starting them.

You’re right that there wasn’t much else in 2016 but there were a handful of second and third year linebackers (none of which were good) that Manny could have played If he was that hellbent on playing older players. Also, TAC gets a lot of love here but I still don’t know why. He was a mid tier 3 star recruit who really hasn’t done anything on the field to justify hype. He was a better prospect than Flagg but not by a ton and that’s not saying much. Honestly, I thought Huff would be a player. He was pretty much a DE at McArthur but his senior year he was a really good off ball linebacker at STA. I have no idea what the **** happened to him.
