In fairness, how much of this recruiting can we really attribute to Mario's recruiting prowess, and how much of it should be credited to NIL?

This comment can be made of every coach ion the past 50 years. How much of the recruting succcess was the coach and how much was it the under the table money. NIL has changed nothing except how the money is paid and reported to the IRS.
So if you are asking this question about Mario this year then the only honest thing to do is ask this question of every coach for the past 50 years.

Well, here is olive branch Mario had the recruiting rep before nil!

It is an interesting question. Mario is known for being a great recruiter but he has mostly been at an advantage: on staff at Alabama, support from Nike at Oregon, and NIL at Miami. To me, he's an example of guys that are good at something and are often shrewd enough to level up, letting their advantageous situation enhance their existing advantage in skill/ability.
