Coker could coach, but he had no coaching tree (later staffs were declining in quality) and he didn’t have the same mindset on recruiting that Butch had.

We could have built an on-campus stadium and tripled every coaching salary, but if we continued to recruit off of Rivals/Scout and tried to hire ****** coaches, we would have fallen apart anyhow.

Alabama had down years. Ohio Taint too. Southern Cal. Texas. It’s not entirely about spending money, it’s about finding the right people and then spending the money wisely.

Coker was nice, but without hiring better recruiters and a few hard-*** coaches, Coker’s days were numbered.

Taylor helped lead the Hurricanes to consecutive national championship games, including a win at the 2002 Rose Bowl. Coker was the problem. There may be some elements of truth in what you wrote, but you omitted the most glaring part - Coker couldn’t lead. The program unraveled on his watch. His staffs got worse. Recruiting became an arrogant afterthought. Me first players began showing up with the three and done mentality. The inmates ran the asylum. Bryan Pata was a sad casualty. The program got worse under him, not better.

Let’s not let those truths be omitted from the narrative please.

He played in the Rose Bowl. Mainly special teams on KO return and KO coverage. I don't know if he got to play any defense towards the end of the game. I would have to go back and watch the entire game, but I know he was definitely in on special teams. IIRC, both Taylor and Kellen Winslow II as true freshman had an impact on special teams during that game.
