Former Players Chime in on D'Onofrio

Why is he a liability?

He's been out of position far too often this season.
He's missed tackles along with the rest of the D.
And his endurance is to be questioned (I've seen him ask out of games more than anyone else, I think).

DP is the only player on our defense who plays all 3 downs every game. And he covers more ground than anybody else on our defense. Of course he asks out of games more than anybody else.

Bennie Blades is one of our all time greats. To me it is pick-em among him Ed Reed and ST as greatest safety ever here. I don't see it the same way as him, BUT if he says it is the players then I am going to shut up. Bennie was both heady and physical. The only thing I would and is Bennie, pick up your brother and get rears down to THE U and put on some clinics on how to friggin tackle. I assume you two still like to get it on.

Questioning his endurance is crazy. DP has to be on the field for 40 minutes. If he leaves the game, there is a significant drop off in productivity.

So what do you do? Play DP every snap every game? I dont blame him for being worn down.

IF Telvin Smith is sub out, there is a minimal drop off at the position(depth). They dont miss a beat. We dont have that.

trying to figure out what starks explanation would be for all the losses in his tenure being we had first round talent including himself
probably that they were down ~30 scholarships.

I keep saying DP is our best player but he plays like a freshman at times....

DP is clearly our best hitter. So DP is the most fun to watch.

DP is not our best player. Half the time, he's a liability, IMO.

Why is he a liability?

Because UM fans, like they did under C0cker and Shanntard, are starting to cannibalize all of our players in an effort to deflect heat from where it belongs. Even our really good players like 52 are being lumped into the shytter.

Most of the best ones on there were freshman. If I'm wrong, my apologies, but 98-99 is when we started to look decent and thats when those guys were getting PT.

I know thats the point, not even with all that NFL talent early on, could we have a winning record and 1st round quality upperclassmen. Starks should know better

You're just reinforcing my position, caneaddict. In fact, I forgot to mention we had Jeff Popovich playing safety.

Popovich is ten times better than highsmith and you're telling me the gurus on this board couldnt win more than 5 games in the Big East with that talent ???

what was the scheme?? lol

How does that make Stark's opinion any less valid?

I wouldn't say Perryman is a liablity, he's just not very good in coverage. None our LB's are. FSU picked on Perryman a few times, especially in their opening drive.

Lol at Pop being 10x better than AJH. I love pop but he was not real good. He's a former walk on for crying out loud

he should how limitations in depth and experience can hinder a teams performance beyond what scheme ur running. The roster he was on should of gone undefeated based on the way people think around here.. why was Miami 5-6? with all those horses on the roster??? a lot of peoples expectations here is for Miami to be better than 7-2 with the top players being fresh/soph, so why wasnt it back then....

oh thats right, everybody wanted Butch fired back then also, howd that work out?

K. Now I know you're just trolling. Have fun.

Denzel Perryman is the best player on this defense PERIOD, not Tracy not anybody else is better then he is.

He hasnt gotten beat more then any other player in this defense has gotten beat.

78 tackles (51 SOLO) speaks for itself.... guy has more solo tackles then everybody on this team has total tackles, except for Jimmy Gaines w/ 54 total tackles.

DP is the only Linebacker talented enough on this team, at this point, to constantly be able to make solo tackles out in space even though he whiffs at times to but thats b/c D'onofrio is such a pathetic DC that leaves his players out to dry... he has his Defensive players that arent in the secondary to far out in space and expects them to be just as effective as if they were closer to the LOS.

Shayon Green is 10 yards back from the LOS and the LBs are 20 yards back and the safeties are in prevent.... look at the stats, no one is gang tackling at all. D'onofrio thinks making one man be responsible for making or breaking an entire play is the best defensive philosophy and you wonder why we will never have an elite defense w/ him as our DC.

I would be happy if the coaching staff just learned how to adjust and not let someone like VT run the same three plays over and over on the defense.

No question. Someone in the draft is getting a steal when they get him in the 2nd or 3rd round.
