of the past season?

For me, the best win was the Gatech comeback. Great emotional roller coaster and an incredible show of character down 36-19 and to have Mike James win it, was poetic justice in many ways.

Worst loss, has to be the UVa debacle. Yeah, guys were out/suspended but up 10 in the middle of the fourth and then needing just one stop defensively with the Cavs needing to go 75 yards or so to win it, this one stung bad.

As for what I'll take from this season: Duke Johnson. Not as good as advertised, but actually better. This guy was worth the price of admission and tuning into every week

Sounds about right to me. The GaTech game is the most excited I've been since the FSU 2009 game. The UVA game had that Clemson 2009 (Jacoby Ford dagger in your heart) feel to it.

It was the following year (2010) that made Randy Shannon's [lack of] plan completely clear to all. I think we get a serious glimpse of Golden's plan next year.

Best game was the GT game for sure.

Worst game considering I was in attendance. I'll give it to K State

Duke and having to watch our defense is what I'll remember

Best Game: GTech

Worst: Virginia

What I'll remember:

This team not tanking against Duke the way last years did after announcing the self-imposed ban
Golden running out when Malcolm Lewis went down
The players celebrating in the stands after GTech
NC State: The Play.
Duke Johnson

I attended both the GT and ND games this year. GT game was an emotional roller coaster, from the great start to the blown lead to the Lewis injury to the great comeback and eventual win, what a great experience. The ND game went from bad to worse, horrible ******* night.

I was at the ND game too and certainly was not happy with the results, but maybe b/c I was expecting us to lose that game it wasn't as bad for me as UVA. The UVA games (the last several years) kill me as it's a team that has nobody's number except ours.

UVA is the one that hurts the most since it indicates potentially systemic problems. no way we should lose to them though I expected that we might. have no idea what it is about that team that gives us fits

Good:

GT
VT
NCSU
USF
BC
Duke
Bethune

in that order

Bad:

ND
KSU
UVA
UNC
FSU

We were one play away from being 8-4.

Best Game: Virginia Tech. I think we played our most complete game against them,

Worst game: Notre Dame, because I flew all the way to chicago to watch us lose by 40.

I know this is a subjective question and surely it felt good to beat VT, but did you really think we played our most complete game? I think VT was just really bad in that game, especially Logan Thomas who over or under threw, several open receivers. I am happy to beat those turkeys, but this recap summed up the win IMO "The Hurricanes were outgained 421-347, went 1 for 12 on third down, and managed exactly 3 yards on 12 plays in the third quarter. And in the end, somehow, none of that mattered." (Read More: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/football/ncaa/gameflash/2012/11/01/50897/index.html#ixzz2E0NdPFH5). Good win (and very satisfying considering the opponent), but I wouldn't call it a complete game.

NC. St was the best for me, thought for sure we were headed to OT.
UVA was the worst because I felt we had no chance of stopping them, and was right.

Boston College was the best for me. By far. An opener carries so much uncertainty. We needed that win to provide optimism toward a winning season, and benefit of a doubt toward Golden. Just imagine what boards like this would have looked like, if we lose to Boston College then the Kansas State game unfolds similarly. Before the season the Kansas State and Notre Dame games looked like muggings so we desperately needed to flank them with soundproofing material.

It seems like everyone takes wins for granted, after the fact, and bemoans tight losses like Virginia and North Carolina. Meanwhile, we didn't threaten to stop Boston College unless they helped us out. It was wide open spaces for their offense all day long. If they don't throw it smack to Perryman's chest when we trail 14-0 I'm not sure it's even a competitive game. Then several times we turned their big plays into turnovers by ripping the ball away. I thought that game was fortunate all the way around.

Besides, Boston College had handled us in both teams' most recent game. That carries weight. They were confident. Against Georgia Tech we always seem to find a way so I was never convinced it wouldn't happen again.

Also, Duke Johnson was so phenomenal against Boston College I knew we really had something. Beyond the clippings. I'm glad my dad was alive to see that game. He died in October, after watching Canes football for more than 60 years.

This always gets me; people say we were so close to being 8-4 or 9-3 b/c of the two close games we lost, but never talk about how we were just as close to being 6-6 or 5-7. I am very excited about the direction of the team, but close game 'what ifs' should cut both ways.

Sorry to hear about your father, but glad to hear that he was able to at least see some promise in the Canes before passing.

Shogungts, I think we pretty much split the difference between close games. We could have been 9-3 and we could have been 5-7

We won close against GT and NC State, and we lost to UNC and Virginia.

Minn - I get that and that is why we went 7-5. My point was that I have seen tons of posting about how close we were to being 9-3, but not nearly as many posts about how close we were to 5-7. I would understand it more if all of our wins were by solid margins and our losses were very close, but we had at least 2 games that we won that were very close, so like you said, it evens out. It's a tendency of almost every fan base to bemoan the close losses and conveniently forget the close wins could have gone the other way.

Again, not saying I am not excited about the future of the team and think that a very solid record is possible next year, but I always get a kick out of it when someone posts something like 'We should have no problem winning 10 games next year as we almost won 9 this year (2 close games) and we should improve by at least 1 more." They conveniently forget the 2 close games we almost lost.

best game was GT bc as LuCane said earlier it was the most excited i've been since that FSU game in 09 and also the way the players fought back after blowing a big lead especially late in the game. worst game is prolly ND or UVA. i would say ND bc i flew all the way up for it and was heartbroken by the drops bc it couldve been a different game had the plays gone our way

They have figured out how to beat us. Throw to wide open tight ends down the middle of the field and follow that up with a running back on a circle route, and complete it with a quarterback scramble for a 10-20 yard gain. Rinse repeat = touchdown Cavaliers.

I think the worst were Notre Dame and K-State...they were two of the elite teams in college football this year and Miami just got destroyed by both...it gave me a glimpse at how far away we were this year. You don't just make up 40+ point losses in a year or by season's end.

maybe its the orange and green glasses but it seemed to me that we did everything possible to help ND. didnt really seem like we were that far away from them.

now KSU oth, I remember thinking that they looked waaay better than us and that we had a long way to go.
