Forget a new stadium for a sec...

So yall think HRS is just automatically going to be there forever? Yall dont think an issue will ever arise where UM may be forced to find an alternative? Then what? Ask to share FIU? Is that what you want? Ask to somehow share Marlins stadium? This is pro sports we are talking about. Think about that. Pro stadiums come and go along with the teams that occupy them.

where would you suggest putting it? it can't go on campus because a) there's no room and b) coral gables leadership would burn down its own neighborhoods before allowing a stadium to be built.

It would take some blood, money, and guts, but how about Jimmy Johnson Stadium at Yaron Field?

I dont know. But what i do know is that UM needs to figure it out. To assume another Orange Bowl situation cannot emerge would be very careless. To wait until “we cross that bridge” would be even more careless.

LOL - I say forget about the stadium, and half the posts in the thread relate to the **** stadium. Forget about it for a second!

The IPF is a good start, but it should NOT be considered our football facility. It's not enough. We need a standalone facility and the hiring of DRad makes me think the school thinks so too.

Why not? I thought that was the main reason for the IPF aside from the “indoor practice facility”

all of the potential solution sites have been beaten to death. unless you want a stadium further away than the current one, it isn't in the cards. the "orange bowl situation" was financially worse for the university than the current situation is, and at the very least hard rock has an owner that is willing to keep the facility maintained and upgraded instead of letting it rot. unless ruiz uses his billions to make a time machine and carry some gold back to the mid-00s to bribe the city more than loria did and pay for orange bowl renovations, the stadium ship has sailed.

We have a brand new facility.

The next steps are renovating the pre-existing facilities (locker room, weight room, Hecht offices, etc)
Didn’t they just update the weight room? I’m sure Mario is going to want a full length 120 yard IPF not sure there is space unless they put it where the track currently is next to greentree. I’m sure they try and build a separate Athletic building for administrators and turn the Hecht into strictly a football only facility.

by the way, UM did not own the orange bowl, it was owned by the city of miami.

however, shalala and manny diaz sr. gave it away. they should have renovated the stadium over the course of years (like green bay did) and had a revenue sharing agreement, but they both sold out to loria. and that's in the past.

all options are pretty poor.

Ross is 81 years old. After Ross, you nor I have any idea what is next. When it comes to professional sports teams and stadiums, anything can happen. And what i mean about the Orange bowl situation is this: UM had no control in that situation. UM had no say. UM got put out on their asses and FORCED to find another place to play. WHY do yall think that cant happen again? Ross, nor anyone after him is obligated to ensure there is always a home for the Canes. Only UM can ensure there is always a home for the Canes. You say the stadium ship has sailed so does that mean that if UM lost HRS as a home that UM would then be without a program? Remember how the city of Los Angelas found itself without a pro nfl team? And for how long? You think that cant happen in Miami? What do you suggest then? Just hope for the best?

give me a few reasonable, realistic geographic places in Miami Dade County where you would put a stadium that requires about 9,000,000 square feet of contiguous real property.

the harsh reality is, yeah. if for whatever reason something happens that prevents us from using hard rock or whatever future nfl stadium pops up, we're in a tough spot. you're also putting the cart before the horse here. we may have deep pocketed donors that want to spend, but we can't have a stadium if there's nowhere feasible to put it.

I dont know sir. I have no idea. That would be the job of UM. Thats not my job and i dont have the knowledge or expertise. You are asking the wrong person. I just know that when you rent or lease from someone, you may be forced to find somewhere else to live. Thats all and it has already happened to UM once. That is a fact.

Now, do i think it is impossible to find a location within a reasonable distance? No, i dont.

I'm proud and pleased to be the recipient of your first ever post. You humble me.
Yeah I don't know what spawned that. No joke, I've been reading this site for many years and never once posted. I think I just envisioned us finally making it back to the big stage, only to all perish from a massive car bomb because some genius decided to build a stadium on top of a parking garage. Then again, the AAA has a parking garage underneath it, so maybe I just don't know what I'm talking about. cheers

In 2015, Miami was reported to have 17 years left on the lease at HRS. Curious if there has been an extension since then. Anybody know? Anyway, i think it is apparent that some folks are shamelessly selfish. They rather find anything they can think of to keep UM in a dependent state, just so they can have a more comfortable experience going to and leaving. You want UM to be king but only so far as it doesn’t inconvenience you. You want the AD to have to negotiate f*cking dressing in the stadium? As opposed to UM making an announcement that they will expand or reduce capacity or add luxury suites or a museum dedicated to past greats, all real things that they CANT do because its not theirs. Dressing? Covers? Are you kidding me? What kind of peanut butter jelly sh*t is that?

I don't remember it that way...

I’m guessing you can cut that space in half and you’d still have plenty of room for fraternity flag football and the nerds playing quidditch.
Maybe Manny could could take over UM's quidditch program to offset some of his $8M buyout
