For the star whores

Washington and Oregon are the exceptions to this rule because the Pac 12 sucks, and they haven't won squat. Stars matter in the bigger scale of things.

They've done a whole lot more than Miami. Star ores just love bringing up Alabama. Stars matter, but to some of you, they matter so much we shouldn't even play the games. We should have it where whoever signs the most stars, should be given the national title.

Alabama, FSU, OSU, Clemson, Florida, USC, Auburn, LSU, have won National titles in the last 15 years and all were consistently in the top 10. Facts are facts.

Also a fact: dozens and dozens of programs that have recruited much worse than Miami have done a lot better than Miami in recent years.

Now you are changing the subject. Dozen's and dozen's? This is more of an indictment on Miami's coaching staff. Miami was not in the top 10 consistently under Golden.

How am i changing the subject? Any if it's all about stars, why are you bringing up coaching?

My argument is that elite programs recruit top tiers recruits consistently. I never said coaching doesn't matter. You are comparing Miami to "dozens and dozens" of programs (which is ridiculous) and going away from the subject. Miami has not recruited enough of the top tier recruits to separate themselves from the "dozens" of programs.

Why is it ridiculous? My point is that here are plenty of programs who outperform based on their recruiting rankings.

Opinion only here.... These star ratings are much like stop signs! Some swear by them... Some just slow down briefly to acknowledge them. A 3 star recruit may be a 4 or 5 star with the right coaching and guidance. And likewise..so golden could turn a bunch of 5 stars, into 3 stars! Its all in the coaches perception, and what the staff feels they can get from them,.. Or get them turned into! Now raw talent and speed and such....some things you just can't teach! But in the end..the stars on AVERAGE, don't lie. Maybe they don't tell the whole truth...but they don't outright lie!!

that article is about the super bowl. the super bowl is not college football. for the millionth time--in college football, having the most star recruits matters.

ok, so to what do we attribute it to when teams sign top 10 classes but then proceed to have extremely bad seasons?

How many of them win a NC? You can outperform your stars, but if you don't have enough stars that performance isn't getting you a ship. Last I checked the goal was another ship.

how does one separate out bias into their scientific studies?

ie - the sites that do the rankings skewing the players higher that sign with the teams that win more

The al golden syndrome!! Not knowing how to coach/ utilize the talent you recruited! Not having the right supporting staff,.. S&c programs...you name it!! Or for short....the "Al Golden syndrome"

alright so,

when a team does well, it's because they recruited a high ranked class?

but, when they dont do well despite their high ranked classes, its because of poor coaching?

it seems we need more information & other variables to consider

The diff tween a w, and a l,..can be as simple as a couple wrong play calls....a missed play be a player too late in the game to recover from...an incredibly good play by the opposition. But if it becomes commonplace..my opinion is.. You have to also look at the staff. Not every loss or win,.. Is on the team..or the coaches. But if it becomes habitual..you may want to consider the training/coaching

wonder how the washington huskies kids are ranked. Looking at Clemson's ranking on scout, says they have no chance of going to back to back championship games. We will get ours, just because we are Miami, but a competent head coach will do wonders for our program.

Take all the 5 stars in this 2017 class ,whatever the number is -lets say 30.

Then take your best 30 three star guys based on your best judgement.

Guaranteed the 5 stars pan out better.
