It only makes sense. LBs play in a small box, sideline to sideline is what makes them good. Quick burst and explode thru the runner. I just don’t get the 40 time crap. Well I do but, it’s not the end all.If people listened to the last Podcast for CanesInSight Lance and DMoney went over shuttle time being much more important when finding a trend on kids becoming all conference players and Flagg was right where he needed to be with numbers for a All Conference LB
40 is more so long speed. He has plenty quickness. Cons would be long speed.Pros:
Tackling machine
Leader on an elite HS team
Houston area kid (need to start hitting DFW/Houston areas again) - kids from there, imo, are as close to a sofla type kid as there is
Cons:
Speed
Not hung up on his height because we've seen many college LBs excel even while lacking that classic 6-2 height. My biggest concern is speed but as we all know, timing at these regional openings can be all over the place and even the elite kids don't test that great. My guess is that he'll be closer to a 4.7 kid by the time he enrolls.
4.92?
Yikes
This was the comparison that came to mind. Jaquan was a local legend with an obvious athletic ceiling. I wish the kid was faster, but the production and instincts show better than I expected.Jaquan J ran a 4.7 and excelled as a safety in this defense. I doubt Shaq or Pinckney are any faster, just great instincts guys and good tacklers.
The 4.9 cb is questionable, but 4.9 mlb with a better shuttle time is fine coming out of high school. That tape of him playing safety is impressive, kid can tackle.
Dam he had 144 tkls last year! He was balling balling ! That was a good find by the coaching staff! If they can develop this kid, he can be special! Like his film too!
His instinct will probably make him a starter one dayHe's produced against good competition so I'm not as concerned about the 40 time. He's also pretty solidly built at 5'10" 220. I'd be concerned if he was playing at 190 and only running a 4.9.
At the very least he provides quality depth.
I read elsewhere that he was also timed at 4.55 at another event..............
He’s bigger, faster and more productive than McCluster who people were *****ing and moaning about when we “lost out on him” and he committed to FSPOO. I think the kids a baller and will be a stud in our system.
3 Star U!!!!
