FL NIL Rule Could Prove to be a Major Disadvantage (edit: already being amended)

Federalism is actually what makes our country great. Your argument feels good to espouse as on the surface it appears to be based on maximum "freedom" and local level "wisdom" but in an instance like this it swings the pendulum entirely too far toward states' rights and sacrifices what verrrrry little remains of any competitive balance integrity in college sports.

If you were talking rules about high school athletics then I'm 100% in your corner. But when you're talking a mishmash of public and private universities that belong to athletic conferences that span many states and (for now) a national governing body then we need some semblance of a universal standard on this front.
@Tad Footeball you make a good argument but when has anything "nationally" benefited Miami? It's the same as insurance in different states. My opinion is to keep it within the states and it's elected representatives. That will take the power away from people in other states who don't have our best interest

wrong. this is a great thing and what makes our country great. what should happen is UF, FSU and Miami AD's need to get together and come up with rules and lobby FL state government. what works for us may not work in another state for those schools. we don't want a one shoe fits all for the entire US. we should make our own rules for schools in Florida and they should constantly get updated to better suit our schools.
Well… if schools from different states are allowed to pay players, maybe Florida can make a rule that non Florida teams only get 4 points when scoring a TD playing at a Florida school.

With everyone having their own rules, there might as well be none because once one state realizes they're at a competitive disadvantage, they'll weaken their laws paving the way for systemic corruption.

What happens if the boosters who run the companies sponsoring NIL deals do so with players who are acrive in a program and then all of the sudden they are in the portal and transferring to a school associated with their NIL deal?

We are seeing that potential now in Texas where they are paying offensive lineman $50k each year to go to U of Texas. What's to stop anyone from paying $100k or even $1M per year for every position to basically buy a team? We're already seeing QBs with million dollar deals.

This is just turning into a defacto pay for play bidding war and that’s not what NIL is supposed to be.

Having the same rules provides some competitive balance. The big money programs will always benefit. National rules are needed.

You're right and that's a valid concern as we're essentially the only school that national entities make rules AGAINST.

I just think that overall the NIL is going to benefit us (if we start to put out a consistently competent product very soon) so I'm more for across the board structure and then letting us try to compete in that realm than a constant competition between states to see who can game the system the most.

Good site for NIL rules per state and our Florida NIL, It seems we might have an advantage but haven't checked but a few states. I believe it is speculated the federal government may get involved, not sure that would be good for us.

They won’t be able to do anything without a constitutional amendment. They can pass a law, but it won’t hold up. Whatever they do will spend years in the courts, until it’s decided by the Supreme Court that a person should be able to earn a living, without someone else’s permission. It’s a states rights and responsibility to regulate itself.
