Very rarely are recruiting coordinators exceptional position coaches (John Blake and Ed Orgeran are the only ones that comes to mind). They are exceptional 'people' person's and help with relations between recruits, HS coaches, parents, etc. Now, I'm not saying Carroll is only here to recruit but I think its too early to simple say he is useless as a position coach.
As a recruiting coordinator, he has done a **** good job. The staff walked into a situation where certain LOCAL schools were 'off limits' and big-time prospects felt disrespected. They've fixed these things pretty fast.
Lets wait for Carroll to coach a kid from his freshman to senior year before we judge him. Right now, he's working with players who had no chance of playing at their old positions.
