The safety blitz from OJ’s side when they had just repeatedly been throwing at him was one of the most mind-numbing calls I’ve ever seen. I felt like I must have been hallucinating when I saw him start creeping up towards the line. Repeatedly dropping a guy who has been playing defensive tackle for you in Mesidor into coverage was inexcusable. And playing Kiko over Popo reeked of seniority, because everyone in the ******* world knew as soon as Kiko was matched up in man the ball was going right there.

We needed a defense that was literally just a tier above the early 2010s Big 12 defenses, and couldn’t ******* do it. And at least they had the excuse of playing high flying offenses week in and out.

I'm basically at this point. I'd just go in order of DC then DB coach and go from there, as it's hard to try to fix an entire defensive staff in one offseason.

But our defensive staff is a failure.

I wouldn’t be upset if he’s retained. Maybe he’s amazing elsewhere but I’m in the boat of wipe the slate clean and let the new DC hire his staff.
 
Put him on a plane to Louisiana so he can go back to driving a special needs busses. Something he might be good at being nice to those kids for being retards.

I think we need a very high level tactician at DC, and one who is heavily involved in evaluations. Mario, and the rest of the defensive staff, can do the closing in recruiting. I think Taylor has been good at recruiting, but I'm going to evaluate his DL signings with strict scrutiny next year.

Nicholson I'm on the fence with. MAYBE Aguirre (entering his third year for '25) and Pruitt improve our LB play, but our LBs suck almost as much as our DBs, if people haven't noticed yet.

This^. It was mind numbing watching the DL continuously stunting, slanting, and dropping into coverage, when it just wasn't working.
Was it stupidity or insanity Einstein was talking about when he spoke of doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results? Pitt succeeded because they got into McCord's face on every down.
Didn't anybody on the defensive staff watch any film?

Guidry reeks of Dorito… a guy who has spent his entire 30 year coaching career at the mid-major level… until Cristofail decided to hire him.

And unlike Golden, Cristofail supposedly has a significant budget to spend on his coaching staff hires.

Pathetic.
