I too grow tired of the ole' "we play player XYZ because he is ALWAYS where he is supposed to be! We just have to get him to make the play once he gets there!" Smh. Been hearing that since the Glenn Cook days. Cant we ever find a player that just makes phuckin' plays regardless of where the **** hes at as long as hes where the **** ball is!

This. I'd rather let the younger more athletic players get burn then seniors who still look lost and on top of that aren't athletic enough (ex. Highsmith) who can't cut it

I would too and the coaches have shown a willingness to play young guys. Thus, the easiest interpretation is that these guys you want to see are REALLY bad.

Not on D they haven't.

Howard struggled to break into the lineup last year. Elder has played a handful of snaps. Burns doesn't get much burn either. Those are three hugely talented CBs.

AQM gets burn on obvious passing downs. Grace, Figs et al just don't see the field.

On O it's different - if Coley runs the wrong route it's not a disaster. If Grace plays the wrong gap it could be.

Personally I'm at the point where I just play the young, athletic guys and simplify the D. Let them run to the ball. Can't be worse.

Pennmed is right... Those guys aren't ready... They're bad... Howard played a lot last year and struggle... The younger guys aren't ready and bad right now... New scheme, not physically developed, and faster opposition can all attribute to the lack of play by our younger players...

You have to wonder about guys like Blue and the other linebackers. How could they be much worse than Cornelius, Armbrister or Gaines?

Short of taking taking their cleats off at the snap and just laying on the grass, it's hard to imagine they could be any worse than the guys we're rolling out there right now.

these coaches put a premium on "knowing where you're supposed to be, and not free lancing".. if our defense is what it is with the guys that know what they're supposed to do, imagine how it'd be with the guys that aren't there yet.

Yup. They know where to be. They´re somewhere else, but they know where they should be.

Really agree with the bold part.

People say that, but just look at the meltdown after they tried playing the more aggressive blitzing and man coverage schemes against VT. If players aren't ready they make mistakes and those mistakes turn into big plays. We need the younger players to be able to come along slowly, learn what they need to learn and be ready to contribute in real, meaningful action in a year or two.

This. I never have much hope for younger players who can't beat out terrible older players.
