FG was the right call

You need two scores to win. I think you kick the field goal which basically forces them to run the ball. You’d think we could stop the run when we know it’s coming.

If you score they likely come out blazing and go right down and score to win.

At the end of the day Guidry’s defense has made the same mistakes all year. Bad angels, blown coverage, bad tackling, bad leverage. He’s toast imo.

We went against the analytics this time, mario lied to deflect blame imo or they just got some false info

And yea the defense still needs a stop but its a difference between needing to stop a score than it is stopping them from getting two first downs and ending the game

The point is why would you bet on your defense over your #1 offense? Even if u fail the 4th down you are in the same situation of still needing a td so we basically just passed on a chance to tie and possibly go up 2

Think about it..We cut the lead just to still need a touchdown, and we bet on our trash defense for another chance to still need a touchdown
LOL. So now Mario lied about the analytics telling him to kick the FG.

If you fail on 4th down we are not in the same situation. Then we need a defensive stop and to score a TD to tie the game instead of win the game.

We'll agree to disagree.

How is this so hard to understand lol, i think people are fighting against common sense here

Yes the defense is terrible and probably give up a game winning drive but if u believe that then why wouldn’t u try to tie the game and defend a touchdown or long fg drive instead of them just needing 20 yards and burning clock?

How is it so hard to understand that even if you do score the td and tie You still need another score to WIN the Game. Btw it's actually not common sense, it's game strategy.

Our D had zero chance of stopping McCord & SUs passing game, ZERO. Syracuse would have had 3 Timeouts & 3:30+ to score. By tying the game you almost guarantee that they will go all in to drive & score to beat us.

By kicking the fg first, You give the D a chance for a stop because you know they're going to RUN the ball & milk the clock. Up until that last drive SU only had 65yds rush. We had 2 TOs & a 2min Warning. Had the D gotten a stop O gets ball back with ard 2mins or so.

Lol.…Same situation as in you still need a touchdown

And yea people that track analytics have posted the analytics say go for it so it can only be two reasons why he would say the analytics said dont go for it.

The analytics do not say to go for it on 4th & goal from the 9 with 3:30 left and 2 timeouts (plus the 2 minute warning).

You're literally just making **** up now.

After the first possession, Syracuse had success running against us. They didn't run much cause they were getting anything they wanted in the passing game.

They had gotten a push inside, and Guidry kept doing the dumb thing of twisting the weakside end/tackle on run downs (which he did yet again on the 1st down 12 yard carry by Allen). Nothing that had happened in that game suggested that we'd be able to stop them on the ground after the FG.

We score a TD there on 4th down, do we stop them before they get a FG/touchdown? Probably not. But still better odds than us stopping them on the ground then driving 3/4 of the field for a TD.

Going for it on 4th down from 10 yards out gave us a small chance to win. Kicking the FG gave us 0 chance to win

I disagree completely. McCord had almost 400yds passing, we weren't stopping the pass AT ALL. Allen ended the game with 82yds rushing, he got about 30 of em on that final drive. Allen is an NFL player & We had done a decent enough job of containing his rushes throughout the game.

There was no scenario that Mario could've chosen that would not require a defensive stop. So to have any chance at a stop you have to take your best bet which in that situation was the Run D. The Defense failed us.

no one mentions we walk the ball in the end zone if JG doesnt make another bonehead play.
As bad as our defense is Cam fumbled at the end of GT. we were in position to win both games and it was player errors that hurt the most.

Fair point.

They had been more successful running the ball against us than on average for them after the first drive. Believe they had a 53% success rate on runs 2nd drive-until before the final drive vs. ~37% success rate the entire year. They weren't getting many yards but they often got the yards they needed to on the ground (and they didn't need to run much on account of how much passing success they had). I regret being hyperbolic in previous post.

I don't think the odds were good that we were going to stop them on the ground on that drive. The odds also weren't good that we'd convert a 4th and 10 and then stop them. Truly a terrible situation to be in, and I've come to agree with some wiser posters that we've spent way to much time belaboring this point.

I wished we had gone for it because at the moment I didn't think we'd get the ball back, and with Cam as our QB I wanted to give him one more chance. Maybe we'd have gotten lucky on defense after that.

Anyway have a good night; hopefully we can get back to arguing about important stuff like who we're gonna play in the playoffs or whoever the **** out next DC will be.

Kicking a field goal showed lack of faith and trust in your record setting QB and your offense that was moving the ball well on Syracuse. You go for the TD, and if fail Syracuse has a long field to drive and you hope that your D that has been awful all night stops them. You kick only if your D has been stout. You go for the TD if your offense has been potent.

I hear the analytics argument which is nonsense under our scenario. How many times have I made better driving decisions than my GPS? Many especially when I can read the road. Mario couldn’t read the game in real-time. You go for the TD to tie, and then kick if you make it and then defend a long field. Simple

It had nothing to do with Cam. We needed a stop on defense no matter what. Kick the FG. Get a stop, then score a TD for the win.

If we scored a TD on 4th down, the defense still has to stop Syracuse from kicking a FG. They couldn’t or they would have made a stop to get us the ball back.

Please have mercy , this team would be a total embarrassment in playoffs like our past FIU and Wisconsin LMAO games.

Way too many players have no stomach to play anymore.

I wouldn’t recommend Cam or X type players to continue playing there out numbered with weak mindset children.

If the argument is “ the defense can’t stop them” ( which i agree with ) then we would have had to convert a 4th and goal from the 10 ( not easy ) and then cuse simply moves downfield for a td to win late.
The move was correct- take the points - but then we should have gone for an onside kick. If we get it, great and if not then cuse has a short field where maybe we force a fg.
The real back breaker was the idiotic George penalty which was coming all season long and he chose the biggest drive of the season to be a selfish petulant child.
I am so tired of Cristomorons family being part of Canesinsight, please stop! Wrong decision, the analytics said we cant stop anyone, so try to score a TD.

True, it wouldn’t have been an easy conversion, but the part you left out is the offense that would have been trying to convert it was one of the top offenses in America with a Heisman candidate at QB. If you not going to trust your offense in that situation, then when? I absolutely would have gone for it.

I disagree. You had the #1 QB in the nation to go along with the #1 offense in the nation in a 4th a goal from the 9. You don't take the ball out of Ward's hands in that situation. If it fails, we have them pinned deep (with a prayer the defense can get a stop or a turnover).

Wrong

Y’all acting like we haven’t regularly been stopped on 4th down after passing on fieldgoals. Remember how hard y’all ****ted on Mario after leaving 9 points on the field at GT.
