I mentioned it on the other board but on one hand, I wouldn't trade Al Golden for anyone these last few years. We needed a PR machine at the helm to get us through this ****.

But it's time to win some mother****ing games and the sad *** "free-lancing, cutting loose, assigment" excuses are pure bull**** at this point. If people want to still hold out that we only suck because of AJ Highsmith and Cornelius...or whomever Golden didn't recruit, then I think that's just as weak.

I was a dumb *** and assumed Coker was doing his job running the program until it was too late.

I was one of those blind loyalists that loved the idea of having an alum running the program.
I stuck by and defended Randy Shannon and dreamed of a better football team on the field until the bitter end. I eventually realized that Randy was not the guy to run this program but the damage had been done.

I like Al Golden and again I think he might be the guy to lead us to better football but I'm not a blind loyalist anymore.
Things are not right and we need changes. I look to Al to make the changes necessary in a timely fashion or want to know why. I don't trust anybody with something I value just like I watch my finances.

This atmosphere of bad football is an embarrassment and I am too much of a UM fan to let it go on unchecked.I sense the same feeling when I read the negative posts of other fans.
I love the 'U' and 'U' football and want to see them back competing for national championships again. So the least I can do is complain about bad football and bad management.
I like the things Al Golden has done to shore up the program. The 'U' tough program, nutrition, academic and social discipline. Strong minds and strong bodies win football games.

He now has to manage the product on the field which right now is not very good but I think it has improved until the last 4 games.
I know we need an upgrade in athletes and I am sure he is doing his best to bring in a higher caliber of athletes but developing and teaching is just as important. I'm not going to stand by and watch the program stagnate again. We should be doing more with the talent we have.
Watching our offense being ineffective and allowing our inferior opponents offense to look like national championship contenders is unbearable.

Demanding excellence does not make a fan a bad fan,

People like OP make me sick. They've become mesmerized by a tie, a nice head of hair, a binder, and a whoooole lot of unsubstantiated talk and hype generated by one man's broken promises. Wake up.
shut the **** up. Every single one of you were praising golden. LOOK AT YOUR AVI FOR CHRIST'S SAKE. Your a little b***h who prolly doesn't know **** about football. 1. our offense is plagued with injuries, and Stephen Morris has lost confidence. Al Golden was responsible for the hiring of Jedd Fisch, who's responsible for Stephen's progression. 2. Yes, he has made a mistake in hiring and retaining Coach D. But for Christ's sake, he just got us through the worst time in MIAMI HURRICANE FOOTBALL HISTORY. SO GTFO THIS PAGE OR STFU UNTIL YOU HAVE SOMETHING INTELLIGENT TO SAY.

Not accurate.

Honestly, The OP is right to a certain extent. Fans are by nature irrational - they think they know more than everyone else. Am I upset by the last few games? Of course, no-one denies that. But how can a fanbase go from flying a banner honoring Al Golden to calling for his head two weeks later unless there is any perspective?

The hatred for Coach D honestly resulted in a new level of stupidity. Its one thing to call for a coordinator or a coach to be fired for ****-poor performance, that I can understand and support, but for idiots to go around saying "WE NEED A 4-3 DEFENSE THE 3-4 SUCKS" as if that they have any idea behind the X's and O's is comical at best. If half the NFL can run a 3-4 defense, what gives these fools the right to critique it as if they know more than professional coaches? Why can't talented college kids coming from the most talented region in America learn the 3-4 system? Unless you think they're total idiots, they could perform well if the coach teaches them proper execution.

Should Coach D be fired? Probably, but if the right coach can come in and properly teach the 3-4 defense, the product on the field will be much better.

Like all of you I'm still miffed about out performance against VT, but if we end up with double-digit wins, can the season really be considered a failure?

I consider 2014 the true test, thats when Golden will show us whether he's champ or chump material.

Like the guy above just wrote, the hysteria over this loss has really just gone off the deep end. I mean we are famous for our epic meltdowns, but this has really just gone over to the theater of the absurd now. Its obvious we have a major problem on D that needs to get fixed and FAST. People are right to be upset and expect more. But we actually have jagoffs on these boards now openly saying that recruits are stupid to come here and play for us. I mean people have gone from flying banners lauding our coach, to calling him every insult in the English language and a few others, over 2 games. You would think we were 0-9 right now.

There is righteous anger and cause to demand some change and improvements. But there comes a point where the hysteria crosses over into sheer stupidity and becomes embarassing. I am now honestly embarassed with some of the comments on these boards. Recruits, players, their families, coaches, media, other fans read these boards. Ive spent 30 years defending our fan base to everyone and anyone. But some of the sh*t being posted on here the last few days is indefensible. I mean it really makes a lot of people look seriously unbalanced and unhindged when you go from worshipping a coach and fretting about him possibly taking a better job, to "fire this f*cking loser bum now" in 2 weeks.

Welcome to internet boards. If you want to see if it is just here, check out other fan base boards (like UF). They are going full potato right now.

Ive come to realize that a lot of people on here are not Miami fans, they are pot stirrers that were lying in the weeds waiting for this day which everyone knew was coming this year when 95% of people predicted 9-3, 10-2. The agenda going on here is utterly flabbergasting

No one expected this team to get their ****s kicked in the dirt by a bad VT team before the season.

Losses to a strong UF, FSU teams were what most saw as possible before the season. The slightly skeptical threw in a bonus loss to a UNC or a Pitt or a VT.

I didn't see anyone predict that we'd struggle to beat bad teams, and get ****-stomped by one.

UF went from winning MNCs and being at the pinnacle of College Football, to being DOG SH*T almost over night. That hysteria is a bit more warranted IMO. We have been stumbling for a decade. We KNEW we were still rebuilding. We JUST came out from the NCAA mess. We still have a respectable overall record, and the chance to have a pretty **** good season, the best in years. The trajectory of this program is still on the upswing, and we have what seems to be the MAJORITY of people here, who just 2 weeks ago were singing the praises of this HC, now trashing him every way imaginable, up to and including saying our recruits are stupid to come and play here.

Ive been on these boards since they have existed. Ive seen, lived through, and even been a part of many EPIC meltdowns on them. But this is just going TOO far now. There are guys on here who are deliberately stirring the pot and trying to out do eachother to see how extreme and idiotic they can be. I think its over the line.

its gone too far bc everyone is tired of seeing ****** qbs go andrew luck on us every week. we should just hand out a dorito heisman to every opposing qb we play

Do you honestly think that the whole of this teams problems rest solely on one awful DC? Firing him won't fix the fact that our players being dragged 30 yards while making a tackle, or not being able to tackle a runner with 3 guys in front of him, or how our offense is super vanilla, you're giving Coach NO-D too much respect in that regard.

Things have a way of working themselves, so if these awful performances continue, D will be gone. Just know that there are other problems to be addressed.

Worse than that. It's clueless.

Ok, we are panicing some. BUT we have suffered for over 10 years and trust runs out. Going into FSU, I for one was enjoying the hope that we might content for NC spot. FSU showed us we are not there yet. BUT Golden and the team were thinking they were there too. So it was not just us irrational fans. They expected to win too. THat is a good thing. I think all of us excused the FSU loss as a simple matter of 3 years of lower level recruiting caused by NCAA mess. Then a crappy VT team comes to our house and plays a half *** game that looked like Randy was managing it for them. It looked to me like the team (players and staff) quit on us at least 3 hours before we started to quit on them.

I was in the bowl for the gator flop. I watched the greatest college player ever, the Stork, play. I paid tuition at THE U for years. I cried when the OB came down. I have defendent Al strong enough for him to actually reply to a couple of my personal emails. Until Saturday, I thought Golden might end up being the greatest coach we have ever had. I still think he can be. BUT, there is something wrong and he has to do something fast. This is not one week or two. We all rode the high of beating the gator, which for me is enough for him getting another year, but it turns out the gator sucks worse than us. There were signs and people like me ignored them. How many time has our defense been burned just because the friggin play didn't get in for them to line up. Even chump teams exposed us for that. Don Shula or JJ would have kicked whoever caused that out of the stadium immediately. I don't know who is the blame, but did anyone get fired?

To me it looks like these kids have worked hard that done all they could. After three years if you are complaining that kids are why your system fails, then it might be time to look at your system or teaching methods. All praise and glory to Al for getting us thorugh the **** the adminsitration got us into, but just as we could see the promised land our faces have been smahed into the mud. Excuse us for being ****ed. Remember Moses didn't get to acutally get into the Promised land and neither did Butch. I am not a coach, and unlike some on this board I don't know everything about football. BUT I know promise when I see it and I know a problem when I see it. What we have here is a frigging problem and if Al wants to keep coaching at THE U beyond 2015, he better get to fixin it and stop talking. By the way, I *****ed about JJ choking in NC games too and blamed Vinnie for costing us two titles. We are fans, it is what we do. I bet FSU fans wish they had driven ole St Bobby out sooner. He suffered from loyalty too(family in that case) I don't want Al gone, but he must deliver improvement each and every week. We have gotten worse for at least four weeks in a row. That is a disasterous trend. I think it good for Al to get a little uncomfortable, people like me were making him a god. Competetion is a good thing, him and the staff has to have it too, not just the players.

The Stork was special, revolutionized the linebacker spot for professional football.

I remember those days at the U, I feel ya man. If you recall those days a winning season was almost acceptable, sometimes its hard to see the big picture, especially for passionate fans. Unfortunately people emote hate and are being irrational, they are fans and have different cane roots depending on the time in history of the program they became a fan.

Thank you for your writing. You put exactly in words what I am feeling as a canes fan nowadays.
