Fall Camp Early Portion Summary - 8/6

The better the walk ons develop the better looks they can show all year on scout team and make the starters have to work harder

So I can blame you for the Al Golden years ? You must’ve not been giving a good look sir. The walk ons was the cloud after all?

He totally whiffed on that excuse , and ironically it was the only one he hadn’t used lol.

Can you keep eye out for our special teams once they start getting into it? Been wondering who will take over Berrios on punt returns and really hoping to hear Baxa is making every kick he attempts.

I believe only O/D when media is allowed in. You need some insiders to post about ST. Maybe a Hartley interview? He has been quiet and working hard with the TEs.

Correct. We don't get to see special teams

In some ways I am glad no one gets to see special teams. With all the inexperienced kickers out there people would be hyperventilating on every missed kick or shanked punt report or youtube clip.

What's Mallory 6'5 6'6? Arms that hang to his shoelaces and rosier fuccs up a throw to him? Not much has changed with qb1.

Man McCray stuck it out to yr 5 only to be passed up by another kid who will certainly never see the field. Kid really has to love the U and just being a part of the team.

McCray and Milo obviously want the free education and degree, like their friends and community, and know their NFL aspirations aren't realistic enough to make it worth transferring out to another program. I have no issue with it whatsoever when we're underneath the scholarship limits, unless they're not grinding, in which case you give their scholly to a PWO. After this 2019 class, we should get to full strength, and scholarships will become so precious that permanent backups are a thing of the past.

They could always try nigel bethel at the safety spot when he gets healthy. He played multiple positions in high school.

DE is absolutely frightening next year. I'd prefer they put Patchan in bubble wrap for the next 12 months. If he doesn't play next year for one reason or another, Miami might have the worst collection of DEs since the probation days.

Also, Khris Bogle? Hello? You can walk into the University of Miami as a true freshman and get 40 snaps a game. WTF are you waiting for?

Joyner is at DE now so we will be 4 deep at least. hopefully there is a grad transfer out there. I think JJ is def gone after the season

Yep, have Joyner at LB on my chart so I need to flip him. You're right. But even still, that leaves this for next year. Please hold me:

1. Scott Patchan -- R-Sr. (One of the 5 most important kids on the team for 2019, IMO. Best case, he stays healthy this year, makes a lot of plays, and comes into his 5th year as a kid we can count on to be a major contributor. Worst case, his injury history continues, and/or he decides to give up football and not return for a 5th season as he'll most likely have his degree. If that happens, this unit is an unmitigated disaster)

2. Jon Garvin - Jr. (Flashed last year and sure looks like he's going to develop into a stud. Needs to take the next step this year)

3. Greg Rousseau -- So. (Getting rave reviews, but still raw and hasn't played yet)

4. Patrick Joyner -- Most likely R-Fr. (Needs to add size/strength. Yet to play a down so who knows what we've got here at the moment)

5. Cam Williams -- Fr. (Assuming he signs, which looks likely -- Will be a true freshman in 2019)

6. Jahfari Harvery -- Fr. (Again, assuming he signs, which looks nearly certain. Another true freshman who will need time to develop)

7. Khris Bogle? Lloyd Summerall? JJ Weaver? Anybody home? How can you look at this depth chart as an elite DE and not be salivating? Let's go.

As I've said all summer, look at the importance of Scott Patchan. If you look at this group, and Patchan is a good to very good 5th year senior, we're OK. Pair him with Garvin, with Rousseau playing a ton and Joyner rotating in, and we're probably good.

Take him off the list, which is certainly a possibility considering this is year 4 and he's made literally 1 play in his career, and look the eff out. You've got Garvin and Rousseau, who is far from an absolutely certain sure thing, with Joyner and true freshman. That's it, and that's as scary as it gets at an incredibly important position.

trust me. i share your concerns.

I don't want to get too caught up in 2019 but as long as certain guys develop like we think they will I think we will be more then fine. Those guys being..Garvin, Nesta, Rousseau, and Ford. We need all 4 of those guys to really be what we are all predicting they will be.

Guys like Patchan and Bethel are guys who may not have super star potential but we will need their veteran leadership to supplement.

If DE/DT recruits cant see the opportunity here, then they really just don't want to be here anyway.
