i know, i know. most of us have tainted memories of berlin.

but looking back on what we had since him, i wouldn't mind having him back. anyone would look like crap following up behind dorsey.

i just watched a video of berlin vs louisville posted in a thread. after watching, i saw a lot of similarities between him and morris that i hadn't noticed before.

both:

are fairly sturdy physically for the qb position. both are strong, imposing.

have big arms and can sling the rock. no limitations on where/how the ball can be thrown.

are very mobile. no problems with them tucking the ball and running when protection breaks down.

are fairly susceptible to making boneheaded mistakes that result in turnovers.

what say you?

and i wasn't so much comparing their teams or rosters as i am their qb/athletic ability. i think they are pretty similar IMO.

I'd like to say you're right, but the sample size for Morris just too small at this point.

I need to see him play a season before I compare him to anyone.

I honestly have no idea wtf to expect.

Tall? Morris is allegedly 6'2", while Brock is 6'1" - neither is tall for a qb. Morris doesn't exactly seem sturdily built either (though he's not a toothpick like JH) - Gray Crow, maybe...

My recollection of Brock on the move was that he frequently ducked his head (much like Stephen Garcia from SC) in anticipation of contact, making him a liability if he tried to gain yards with his feet.

Strong arms and boneheaded plays? That, I can agree with.

ehh, poor wording on my part. meant something along the lines of "imposing". i agree they aren't skyscrapers.

Brock's SR season was very, very good. If we get that kind of production from Morris, we'll be more than OK.....

Berlin didn't move around all that well, but there are similarities in terms of how they deliver the football: frozen ropes, and not a lot of touch.

However Berlin had the capability of getting insanely hot. The final 20 minutes of football he played against Florida in '03 was the stuff of legend. He was something ridiculous like 18-21 for 278 yards and led us on 4 straight TD drives like it was nuthin'.

Brock was so underrated. Mostly because he followed in Ken Dorsey's footsteps. He had some tough losses for sure, but you can't take away from him the fact that he never lost to UF or FSU and I'm pretty sure he won all his bowl games. One of those being the last BCS Bowl we were in and vs. FSU.

If Morris can play like Brock that would be fantastic. Imagine how much better Brock could've been with Fisch and Golden coaching instead of Coker and whoever was our OC when Brock was here.

Brock could have been waaaaay better if Coker would have been able to remove his head from his *** and see that Brock was just a better spread (2 minute offense) guy.

There is no shame in that line of thinking. Are we a spread team? No. But smart coach's play to the strength's of their particular team.

Coker and our OC those 2 seasons were constantly trying to stick a square peg into a round hole when there was no reason to. Dammit Coker was an abortion.

From what we have seen I think Morris compares to Brock very closely in arm strength, etc. I brought this up in an earlier thread and had people coming outta da woodwerks to tell that Morris had an elite arm that was way stronger than Brocks.

i didn't see it, but i agree with you.

offseason optimism might be raising morris' arm from "good" to "elite". i think he has a strong arm but wouldn't consider it elite. not from the bit that we've seen of him, anyways.

Morris is far more mobile and has a stronger arm than Brock. Time will tell if he can manage an offense and be as accurate as Brock was.
