They have not been ideal but on George's second TD last week that was a screen and he would have went a lot further if he had more turf in front of him and it was blocked well.

Dawson also uses it to set up other plays. I forget the game but it was a home game a few weeks ago, faked the WR screen, everyone was asleep and he hit Arroyo up the sideline for a huge gain. I think they have a purpose but limiting them isnt a bad idea.

I mean if Syracuse is awful at defending them then why not? And also that was not his block. Re-watch the play.... Cici is the RT on the play, He immediately runs to the middle of the hashes and turns his back to George (so he is facing the camera) to seal off the MLB. The MLB bit so hard on the playfake to lyle running right Cici had no one to block so he had to do a complete 180 and just meandered up field. Could he have blocked the guy you circled? Sure but I wouldnt call it a whiff when its not his guy. Also even if that guy makes the play he was the safety 10 yards off the ball, its basically a run for 5+ yards.

I hope Dawson cuts out the BS wide receiver screens that were awful at blocking for and just go vertical and pound them with the running game

Literally scored on one last weekend. Half of Colbie Young's highlight is screens lol. It is a staple of his offense.

“Going vertical” into a 2 deep shell is a recipe for disaster, especially with Cam. When you have the #’s advantage, you take the easy yards. 508 yards and 42 points later it worked. Jesus some of you are insufferable

Unless Syracuse follows with everyone else game plan they are majority cover 3 team.. pff usually gets into actual numbers and breaks down matchups based on what teams usually do.. always a good preview watch

Screens are a box numbers play. They aren't always going to be successful. You would be screaming your head off if we had an 8 man box with 5 OL to block and kept running the ball into the teeth of it. "Throw it outside". Sometimes they break sometimes they don't. But it's about showing the defense you will throw it outside if you are going to keep 8 in the box with the safety hanging.

This play pre snap it was man with a safety over the top. 7 in the box. It was a fine play call or even check by Cam to throw it out there. You essentially want the WR to have a one on one in space to beat the player responsible and the OL to climb to get that safety. George beats the man responsible for him and Carpenter is able to get a hand on the safety. The 2 LBs immediately flowed to the fake on Lyle.

It’s part of the offense to keep them honest. I agree to pound them but you also have to vary it up so they have to defend the entire line of scrimmage. Occasionally they pop and also sets up the vertical play when dbs over commit.

If Cam consistently takes what the defense gives them and doesn't turn the ball over we should have a chance to win. Defensively we need to compete and keep everything in front of us.

Cam needs to be more accurate with those throws too. His mechanics are awful. If he can set his feet instead of chucking like he’s trying to skip a rock we’d be so much more successful on those plays where the #’s favor us.

we have the number one offense in the country and the plays were there to be had against GT, scheme isn't the problem

WR screens have been somewhat successful, especially if X is the receiver. We just don’t neeed to do them more than once a quarter.

Agreed, over and over again is my issue, especially when we don’t execute it correctly and it leads to a negative play
