"Generally when you give up big runs it's not just the front seven; it's because the back end didn't what we call spoke to the ball - if you're in a three deep coverage, those three guys have to throw a net on the ball and get the ball on the ground," D'Onofrio said. "The corner and safety have to keep it between them. If the ball bounces out and goes for 50 yards, it's not the defensive end's fault any more.

ND did not even pass the entire first half and this is his explanation? Wow

He is sounding like Patrick Nix on offense!!

This asshat needs to be fired just like al groh got the boot today. There is no excuse for miami to have a defense that is in the bottom 10.

Ok, I am not sure what else he said or the context of what I assuming is a question asked of him, but for big runs (which is what he is talking about here) is what he said not true? For the 50 yard plus runs you can't solely blame the DE or DT. Sure they might have been beat, but there is no reason that someone in the back 7 shouldn't have been able to stop the rb for a much shorter gain.

Why wouldn't you make the adjustment and put 11 guys in the box as they did not pass the entire 2nd half, mind boggling.

Georgia Tech thinks its unacceptable to be the 90th defense in the nation.

But its ok for us to be 118

Are you serious? First, not even Buddy Ryan puts 11 in the box. If we did, they would have obviously thrown the ball.

I don't have a problem with this.

I have a problem with why this front 7 is getting gashed for like 10 YPC, and is still a front 7, not a front 8 or 9.

This ***** wants these ****** to talk to the ball and he thinks THEY the ones ******* up....

Sheeeeeiiiiiiiiittt

He is right.
I remember seeing Kane not contain the edge when a ND RB, The white one, popped it outside for a big gain.
You have VT not sealing the outside on the Atkinson run for a TD.
You have Eddie Johnson still lost in pass coverage.

The issue could very well be D'onforio's defense being to complex for these young guys to grasp and only time and repetition will be what it takes for them to finally get it.

And make no mistake it's about the future. Why else would Terry and McCord be getting major minutes in the second half in this game?

If by next year you don't see major improvements I'll be all in. But now I'm trusting the process.

Post the question.

Defensive coordinator Mark D'Onofrio was asked after Monday's practice what happened in that pivotal quarter

The point is he made no adjustments to an offense that did not throw the ball the entire 2nd half and allowed 34 1st downs, incomprehensible.
