Hey gentleman, I just wanted to hear your thoughts on what you think Coley will bring to the to this year's team.

Do you expect a smooth transition and an immediate impact like Chad Morris or Doug Nussmeier(Alabama)?

Will he need an additional year to become more acclimated with playcalling and to gel with the players so you'll see more structure next year?

Can we be the top offense in the ACC, if not the nation, with probably just Clemson being a real threat?

Do you think the offense can finally put points against top competition and not just mediocre teams like last season?

A lot of questions but just wanted some thorough feedback.

Also, for the past couple of months I've tirelessly read threads regarding Duke's size and questioning if he can be solely a feature back. My confusion is why most think feature backs must someway be 215+ lbs? Looking at last year's college running backs measurements and just RBs off the top of my head guys like Kenjon Barner(5'10''; 197), Robbie Rouse(Fres St. 5'6''; 190), Lyle McCombs(Conn 5'8''; 166), David Oku(Ark St. 5'10; 195) were top 25 in rushing attempts in the NCAA last season. A lot of the players in the top 25 in attempts barely cracked 200 lbs as well. In addition, NFL players such as Chris Johnson and Jamaal Charles aren't 200 lbs but are their team's primary back and are probably top 12 rushers in attempts in the league.

I stated all that to say I think Duke, with the occasional spell, is fine and depending on Coley's playcalling should truly have a monstrous season. His vision, in my opinion, is second to none.

I think people use some sort of prototype for RB that is 15 years out dated. Everyone's looking for the 5'11" 225 lb 4.5 speed guy. Truth is, I will take a smaller more athletic guy who's more of a threat to break one deep ala Duke, Chris Johnson. If a guy has a knack for avoiding contact, a smaller guy can easily carry 25 times a game.

No reason this offense shouldn't dominate. Experienced QB, experience and talented OL, WR depth, and a top 5 RB in the nation. He has to get Morris to be able to perform against the good defenses though, as well as the entire offense. We showed out vs the mediocre and crappy teams last year, but went ghost mode vs fsu, ksu, and ND.

I don't mean this in a disrespectful way but he just needs to not mess up the flow the offense had last year. I know he'll put his philosophy in motion but I am hopeful that he doesn't sway to far from last years offense. I am hopeful that he does stress the run game to demoralize defenses. I think are o line can make that leap

Duke won't see anywhere near 25 carries in a game.

3 core goals:

1. Identity: Improve our identity by bringing us from 89th in rush attempts to somewhere around 40th, at least.

2. Assertiveness: Improve our crispness by increasing our # of plays by approximately 10%, yet remain in the same vicinity of yards per play.

3. Efficiency: Improve our redzone offense. Out of the top 50 redzone offenses in the NCAA last year, we led all teams in FGs. Closest team to us was 15% behind us. Out of the top 50 redzone offenses, we were one of the lowest scoring per trip at 4.65. For comparison's sake, Wake Forest only had 25 trips to the redzone (to our 52), but scored 5.72 points per trip. The marker seems to be above 5 points per trip. We were extremely inefficient in the redzone.

Consistency sustaining drives and 3rd down efficiency. The big plays are great but in between those we need some drives that move the ball even if it doesn't result in points. Too many 3 and outs last season and whole quarters where we couldn't move the ball. Don't really care where we rank in the country in yards or points, but we should be over 40 a game with points consistently over 30.

Duke should be around 200-250 touches next year, and it's not necessarily about him being too small or injuries, it's about keeping him fresh. Big backs who grind out yard don't need to be overly fresh because they're not busting out 50 yard runs multiple times a game, but we don't need Duke taking a pounding. Duke would likely be fine around 300 touches next season, but it's not necessary. We need him getting consistent yards and breaking big runs. If he's worn down those 50 yard runs are going to turn into 25 yard runs.

I very much disagree. Fisch had great plays and really developed our offense, but he is getting romanticized a bit. Our offense went stagnant for large stretches last year and then would get bailed out by some great big plays. Also, as Lu alluded to, we stunk in the redzone.

We have the talent, we have the experience, now we need the consistency (game to game and drive to drive) and to take the next step in really establishing a running game. I shudder to think what our running numbers would have looked like last season without Duke. I really hope Coley emphasizes a commitment to running the ball. That, IMO, would take this offense to the next level.

Agreed. We were on pace to score 80+ vs NC State then just shut down. Need to be a lot more consistent this year......and I think we will

I agree with what your saying. I just hope that he keeps some consistency in regard to Morris. Our o line should be the key to Cooleys success.

I think you will see more screens to the RB which Im not opposed to. I hope we continue to go vertical and stretch the field like we started doing last year. My concern with Coley is his incorporation of the TE in the offense. We have a really good group of TE's on the roster now and it would be a shame to underutilize them and make opposing defenses have to prepare for every weapon we have on the field.

I expect a smooth transition and balanced playcalling, although that is hard to predict since Jimbo was the gameday OC.

Regarding Duke, in our offense I think we need a second running back. In a pro-style offense you still need to distribute 30+ carries a game and we aren't talking about draw plays. Even 'Bama spells their backs significantly and those guys are bruisers running behind a great oline.

All I care about is points scored. More importantly, points scored against good defenses. I know there was a lot of mental mistakes from the players but all I care about is putting up 30 pts + on the top defenses we play this year. That was one big problem with Fisch's offense last year, we didn't perform well against the top defenses we faced.

Fisch didnt just shut it down, he made one of the most boneheaded calls up 23-7 inside the 5, he threw the ball and it was picked and brought back to our 5 and 23-14 a play later. That game went from being over to losing all momentum in a snap.

Which brings me to my point with Coley, please NO SHOTGUN OR FLURRY OF PASSES FROM INSIDE THE 10!! Duke Johnson will be automatic from there.
