ESPN3 Excerpt Interviews *Providing Updates*

Just in case you are at work and can't watch the ESPN3 coverage I will be providing updates on the short interviews being given. I am also posting on the Main thread but they will get lost in all the pages.

Also, I know I am missing some because I tuned in 20 minutes late but I will be posting from here on out. Feel free to add what I missed.


Coach Kuligowski excerpt ESPN3

-Talk how Miami is a great place to come coach and be able to win a National Championship
-Miami was known for a great DLINE, wants to live up to the standard
-Weather is fantastic
-Has an unprecedented track record in developing kids to the NFL. "The kids just have to buy in and I can get them there"
-Tyreic Martin recruited by Kool at Mizz, just kept in contact with him throughout the process. Believes in his ability "Athletic type of guy with high ceiling. Needs to be developed"
-Bethel is coming in ready to play in terms of weight (265). Big enough to be physical force they need on the line. Great attitude and excited to coach him.


Todd Hartley excerpt ESPN3

-Impressed with the kids (TE), maturity, and leadership. Very excited
-Emphasizes the size of the TE's at Miami and how they can also make an impact on Special Teams
-Watched film on TE's from last year, sees the opportunity for them all to compete for playing time
-Talks about how NFL is using TE's offensively and how we can apply that to the College Level
-Njoku is very versatile, can block and then be a mismatch for the defense "special"
-Excited about the Special Teams Return game next season with Bruce and other kids coming in
-Great staff and very excited to be part of a renewed Miami
-Blessed at TE position and the "Specialists"
-Looking for leaders at the groups (TE & ST) he is coaching to command the room
-Talks how Badgley is a competitor


Thomas Brown Excerpt ESPN3

-Travis Homer "dynamic football player, open field, 3 down RB, can return kicks, great person who comes from a great family"
-Feels good to recruit for The U. Important recruiting kids who wants to come here and put on The U.
-Current RB group "All about competition, respects their past work but they will compete to play. Nothing will be handed"
-Big part of running game is Pass blocking
-"First thing Richt told me at UGA was if you can't block (RB's) you can't play"
-Will go into spring ball and evaluate the offense and see what type of offensive they will hang their hat on
-Jovani Haskins "Basketball frame who brings a lot to the table at TE". Talks about his athleticism
-Fundamentals and Discipline is the most important part for success and talks about creating competition


Shaq excerpt ESPN3:

-EE impact, getting acclimated with the defense and program is important to him
-Looking forward to playing in the aggressive 4-3 defense Diaz has setup
-Meant a lot to him to see Darrion Owens progress (Former HS teammate)
-Miami has been his dream school since he was young
-Weather in Miami is great
-Richt and Shaq had prior relationship (UGA recruiting), called it a blessing
-Says he loves watching film and deciphering plays "film does not lie"
-Wants to develop pad level and using his hands, also pass drop ability
-"Buckle up it takes a lot to be a winner, you better be able to put in the work"
-Can't wait to compete and live up to the tradition of The U
-Success is earned not given


Manny Diaz excerpt ESPN3:

-Excited about group of LB's coming in and the fact that they are EE's are extremely important "Huge advantage in catching up to speed"
-Making the transition from HS to College is very different and the guys who make that transition will find success
-EE's come in and be on campus, go through spring, go to school are much more prepared than kids who come in the summer
-Shaq has a natural ability to find the ball "instinctual player"
-Earning the respect of the lockeroom is important. Mainly establishing yourself on Special teams as a young player.
-Mike Pinckney is a very productive LB. Makes plays behind LOS. Natural instinct for blitzing.
-Wants to define defense as a playmaking defense
-Feels that Tyreic Martin will fit in well with his system. Coach Kool was high on him which is a "high endorsement"

Coach Richt

-Have been working extremely hard since he came in to get the best possible players on the team and working the kids already on the team (workouts, schoolwork, buying into system)
-Wants his players to have an impact on and off the field
-Talks how Miami is in a transition year, does not have the year long relationships he can create with recruits
-So far everything has been about recruiting, watching film, and creating those new relationships
-Monday morning started off season conditioning program. Will have 8 more of these specific drill days like the one on Monday
-Talks about the "Mat Drill". Early morning program that creates mental and physical toughness, and agility
-Jack Allison "Wonderful young man"
-Allison was the first guy's film he saw. "Great Zip, good stature but still has a lot of filling/stature in to do"
-Few guys whose childhood dream to be a cane, very encouraging when recruiting
-Creating relationships takes time, kids commit to a staff they have a connection with more often than committing to a school this late in the process
 
Mike Pinckney

-Playing for the U will be a great experience
-Not a hard decision, already knew in his mind since middle school where he wanted to attend college
-Transition hasn't been that big. His parents have been preparing him his whole life for this
-Good upside to come in and get acclimated to the whole system as an EE. Talks advantage over kids coming in the Summer
-Knew he wanted to come in Early since commitment
-Wearing the U "Greatness"
-Instinctual linebacker who runs sideline to sideline but still has a lot of work to put in
-Great opportunity with the new coaching staff for everyone to start fresh
-Played 3-3-5 in HS but now playing in the 4-3 will allow for him to clean up tackles and always be around the ball
-Experience is key, size isn't as important to him as mental toughness is
-Family is very important "something you need"
-Playing for Coach Richt is great, "Hall of Fame coach, very respected"
-Rebuilding process trying to bring it back
-Conditioning workouts have done a good job in keeping him in shape, talks nutrition center being important
-College Life is very flexible and likes it
-Wants to play fast and fearless when he is on the field

Mike Rumph excerpt ESPN3

-Means everything for him to come back to the University of Miami
-Wants to create a new identity (innovative in his approach)
-Malek Young is a special player, can play Special Teams, knows what he's getting in Young as a talent
-Very excited to coordinate with the defensive staff what they will do with the new system
-Doesn't want to "play" the offense wants the offense to "play" off them
-Corn is the foundation for his group, can't say enough good things about him
-Transition from HS: "Awesome, shocker, worth it as a Hurricane. Will do whatever it takes"
-Sam Bruce will change the game. Whenever he has the ball he can go the distance

These were the ones I missed earlier. Replay is now available on ESPN 3.

Jack Allison

-Being an EE has been an amazing experience
-Has a jumpstart on camp and is getting a feel for how college life is
-He knew he wanted to come to Miami since his Sophomore year
-Mark Richt was the best hire for him personally, likes it a lot
-Ran the same system in HS that Richt will run, great fit
-"Haven't found a throw I can't make"
-"We were up working out at 5:15 this morning"
-Brad Kaaya is a great person to be around, very positive
-Kaaya serving that mentor role to Jack
-Style of play the U has always had influenced his decision, calls it an honor to be here
-Wants to compete, lead, and win games
-Touched on how he needs to be bigger and faster

Coach Dugans

-Excited about Coley, said it was a priority to keep him and was very happy he decided to stay
-Likes Cager, says he has been working hard this offseason and excited how much he wants to get better
-Looking for tough guys at WR "football players"
-Loves speed and kids who want to be coached
-Sam Bruce, called him samborghini "Very dynamic player, RAC ability, and very excited to have him return balls on ST"
-Talks some about the Donk on his recruiting trail
-The U needs to bring back that swag, not ****y moreso confidence
-Doesn't think Bruce will be scared of the limelight, very excited for his development
-Emphasized how the new kids coming in will have a chance to prove themselves on the field and more importantly on Special Teams

Patrick Bethel

-Miami was the best fit for him, connection with coaches
-Dad stayed away from recruitment wanted him to make choice for himself
-"Blessing and an honor to wear the legacy of the U"
-Wants to play with the swagger of the old days, go out there and dominate everybody
-Being an EE gives him a headstart in classes and in training
-The intensity of the workouts have been the biggest transition from HS to College
-Talks support system from the guidance counselors in school to be successful academically
-Looking forward to spring football
-Loves Hard work
-When asked about Diaz Defense "Sounds like fun getting after the QB"
-Miami is about to snowball and get rolling so you better jump on while you can
-"Things are starting to look very bright for UM, we are trying to win championships here"
-Said that Coach Richt will play the best 11 no matter the age.

(This comment says a lot about the difference in Style of coaching. No favors to the seniors only the best will step on the field)

-Having Coach Richt here boosted his choice in coming to UM
-New S&C will get them bigger and stronger and is excited
-Family is very important to him, never leave someone behind "A team that isn't united will never prosper"

One of the main things I can take away from these interviews is that every single coach said something about Special Teams. The young kids being able to crack heads and prove themselves is very important to them.

Special Teams has been a dumpster fire under Golden, I am very much looking forward to the change the new staff is preaching.
