espn vs rivals

I don't give a f**k about rankings on either site.

ESPN's SPARQ rating is the most valuable evaluation tool available for the average fan. In fact, some fantasy football experts use ESPN SPARQ ratings as part of their rookie evaluation.

Compare the following players:

Artie Burns
6'0" 183
4.5 40 yard dash
4.32 20 yard dash
33.7 vert
99.99 SPARQ

Tracy Howard
5'11" 175
4.65 40 yard dash
4.44 20 yard dash
26.5 vert
NO RATING SPARQ

Trajan Bandy
5'10" 182
4.51 40 yard dash
4.23 20 yard dash
35.1 vert
111.96 SPARQ

Analysis of these numbers would have led any knowledgeable fan to understand that Tracey Howard was wildly overrated as a prospect. I understand he is playing in the NFL; however, he was not drafted and he plays for the worst team in the NFL.

These numbers also make me VERY excited about Trajan Bandy. He is essentially a tougher version of Artie Burns.

A high SPARQ rating does not guarantee success; however, there is close to a zero chance a player will be a championship level caliber player if he cannot run or jump.

Some Al Golden specials....

Ryan Mayes

Terry McCray
6'3" 205
4.92 40 yard dash
4.63 20 yard dash
29 vert
65.91 SPARQ

Robert Knowles
6'1" 190
4.81 40 yard dash
5.41 20 yard dash
29 vert
54.33 SPARQ

They all hit and miss yearly. The only way to say who is the best would be to look at each class three to five years down the road.

I don't pay much attention to the class rankings as they generally favor big classes. I instead look at the average star ranking and go from there. Every year is different, some years you take a small class and others it's huge. The players are what matters and if you only need 15, there's a premium on those spots versus a year you need 25.

Star rankings aren't the end all be all either. The greater your star ranking, the higher percentage you have at playing in the NFL. There's been some studies on this and we know it to be true.

Espn is better....cuz they use film evaluation on every prospect....even if a player never go to camps they get a fair look...I also like to use its profile to determine size and 40 times....Rivals rate players mostly by camps before looking at anything else.... several players never get another look during their senior year....it's a top heavy service...IMO
