ESPN goes scorched earth on UM Coaches

Meh...who cares!?!?

Win out. Get spot #3 or #4. Make a playoff run.

When Duke B-ball loses a game this year, will it matter? No. Why? 'Cause they're gonna make the March tourney & make a deep tourney run.

Nothing. Matters. But. Winning. Games. In. The Playoffs.

Lots of tears in this thread. Just win. You lose to a bad GT team, you deserve to be **** talked. You win out. **** talk goes away.

Mario gets compensated like a champion. He needs to produce champion-esque results.

If he was making $150,000 a year with no NIL support, I'd understand struggling against ACC teams.

Its his THIRD year and THIRD recruiting class. Only 3 of his recruits start on defense, and 4 start on offense.

He's fielding the worst defense in program history in his THIRD YEAR continuing a trend of nationally embarrassing losses.

This is not building us up to be a national powerhouse. Its clear-cut digression.

IMAGINE if he didn't get Cam Ward in the last hour of the off-season.

He brought in Poffenbarger to backup Emory (continuing a trend of bringing in portal backups) and we'd be 5-5 AT BEST right now.

Mario is not a good coach. He's not even good at evaluating talent. He's hand-built to be an Associate Headcoach/Recruiting Director/Director of Player-Personnel.

Make no mistake; this is the funnest season of my entire life. Watching Cam and the boys light up the scoreboard has been great. I'm no mope.

But I know how this ends. We either:
1. Lose out
2. Beat Wake Forest. Lose to Kyle McChord. Come out unprepared and unenthusiastic for the Bowl Game.
3. Lose to the Miami reject squad against SMU in the ACC Championship (where Lashlee will look to get all the former Canes some touches and scores against our defense.)

We're going to waste a once-in-30-years QB, because we have the worst defense of all time. In Mario's THIRD year.

A real leader with high expectations would realize their shortcomings and seek outside help from known and trusted experts because they prioritize winning over anything. Mario's version of that is needing a helper to tell him when to call timeouts.

My version of that would be calling in some favors from Nick Saban and Dan Mullen, bringing them in over the Bye to get some feedback, evaluating your own practices, and adapting to their recommendations.

They will point out things like:
1. Defensive pre-snap alignment
2. Secondary
3. Defensive Line Stunting
4. Lack of cohesion between offensive identity. We have one run play, versus an air raid passing attack. No counters, off-tackle, outside zone, pitch/toss, option...
5. Ignoring tightends
6. Too many screens
7. A QB who (as much i love him) freelances too much

I still think Mirabal has influence in the run scheme, and this would removing that influence.

I have fair criticisms and concerns. I have realistic standards and expectations. The Football program should too.

A week later and it’s still painful. Apparently Booger McFarland and other ESPN talking heads trashed UM coaches including Mario for horrible effort/gameplan vs GT. GT was a much inferior team and UM was totally unprepared. Speaking of grown ups, I guess you’ve got to be a grown up coach and own it too.
Tell me where they lied? They were spot on.

****, Mario is trash . . . over paid, can’t recruit or coach. Mirabal apparently is a problem as well. GT loss was tough to swallow, but some have lost their mind.

This is not the worse defense in Miami history, why do our fans try to **** on our program more than others

***** Miaz defense in 2021 was statistically worse in ACC play than our current defense in ACC play

TrumpyCane loves how all the experts come out after a loss and continually try to crap on the team with made up points

And for people who want to try to say TrumpyCane loves Mario

Nothings changed in this opinion though will say Mario has done a much better job in game decisions this season and his uses of timeouts

Mopes waiting for the first loss of 2024 like a 10 year old running downstairs on Christmas morning hoping for a brand new bike under the tree.

When the Canes lose close games last year, nobody's happy, blow up the program, and start over. When they win close games this year, nobody's happy, blow up the program, and start over. Could we at least wait until they officially fall flat over the next month before moping it up?

Kudos to everything you said which makes quite a bit of sense to me. I get a kick at many of the fans here put down FSU and UF like they are going into the tank. I strongly disagree with that sentiment and if Mario doesn't get a stud for QB next year it will be a very long year and a major disappointment for us Canes fans. Mario is a clown and should never be a head coach but some of you keep buying his BS every week. The GT game last week was a TOTAL EMBARRASSMENT to the entire country. I could care of less what Mario says about owning a loss. A real man gets up on the podium and says the entire loss is on me the head coach. We were slow, unprepared, lack any fight, and had two hapless QB's beat us along with their first string RB out. I got outcoached, out thought, out smarted and I made several BONEHEAD DECISIONS that led directly to our loss. I am a charlatan disguised as a head coach but just a very good recruiter. I hope we win out and make the playoffs but something got to change ASAP!

Same with ACCN. Mark Packer and Tom Luginbill, neither of whom could get a legit job anywhere else, were just full of glee and laughter as to how GT coaches outsmarted ours, how they stopped CW. They just reveled in interviewing GT coach, who blushed like a 14 year old virgin who just got kissed by a cheerleader. Watching this, and having watched them talk about our success first nine games, I realized how pained they were that they had to talk about the U’s successful season. Fnck them. Fnck ACCN. Fnck the ACC.

Statistically our defense is every bit as bad as it looks live.

The very best teams have quality defenses. Looking at the scoring defenses of the top 15 ranked teams, only UM and Boise States field scoring defenses ranked below 40th.

And the disparity between UM and top 10 teams is even greater. BYU is second worst with the 26th ranked scoring defense. Every other top 10 team in the BCS rankings have scoring defenses ranked in the top 10. UM scoring defense is a significant outlier with the 58th ranked scoring defense.

Looking at UM's scoring defense in conference play is even more discouraging:

Among the 17 ACC teams UM's scoring defense is ranked 13th.

I know a lot of folks point to talent as a reason for our ineptness on the defensive side. I think the problem goes much deeper than talent. Do SMU, Louisville, Pitt, GT, Syracuse, Duke, UVA, VT, BC, UNC, Wake and Cal all have better defensive talent than us? Or is our defensive scheme/staff worse than theirs? I don't think our talent on defense is inferior to those other listed teams.

Bottom line for me: Am I enjoying this season? **** yes. Am I worried that we're not much better than last year's team without the last minute addition of the country's top QB and future first round selection? **** yes.

He loves everybody but Mario. Kills him Miami has been doing so well. I’ve always thought it’s because Mario doesn’t kiss their butts and do the “aw shucks”
Thing with them. Literally every other coach in the conference gives interviews etc on that show all the time. Not Mario
