With the end of Fall Camp here now, two scrimmages down and a number of practices out of the way has anything changed on how you guys feel about this years team going into the 2014 season? In regards to a few main concerns going into this which was the QB position, the Defense, the team overall and its ability to win the coastal this year.

I began camp with high hopes at the QB position and although after the last scrimmage it still remains high I do have my concerns based on some of the reports that came from it. Its always confusing when scrimmaging against your own team as to where your team actually stands offensively and defensively. Especially when hearing about 7 sacks, a few picks, a few big runs and so on don't know if its good or bad. I do feel that the defense has improved from last year and also that we do have a powerful offense with all those weapons. So maybe that's a sign that the defense may be back almost or that the offense isn't jelling yet. Who knows until opponent 1, but with all that said I still see us winning the coastal this year behind effort of some old names and some new names we'll be hearing for the next few years.

How my opinion has changed:
1) Our RB situation is actually even better than I thought it would be. I think Yearby will be able to take some pressure off Duke, and do well in case Duke gets injured again.
2 ) Wyche isn't as good as we all hoped.
3) Dissapointed in Sandland not earning backup role to Walford.
4) Owens and Grace are extremely talented and one of them should probably be a starter, but doubt they will.
5) Safety will be the best position of our defense.
6) With this QB competition I'm convinced Olsen ends up transferring next yr, heaps isn't good, and RW is the starting QB when completely healthy.

Trending up: Kaaya's savior status, the RB position, Jamal Carter, Denzel's chances of taking a life, Braxton nuts in yo' mouth Berrios, soft shoulders on CIS.

Trending down: Gus' health, LB depth, kicking game.

Defense is better...
RB is in better hands this year
TE is going to be a 3 headed monster
WR is deep as f**k
Fan of Kaaya but still iffy about our QB position as of today
Grace needs to be in a starting position
Bush and Carter should man the Safety position while Crawford is the wild card.

The few times I've seen Wyche the OL could not move him. If he does just that and occupy two blockers then we will be a lot better.

Dallas Crawford?? Guy has been the most consistant since camp started. I think he's earned himself a starting nod against Louisville

I think it's fair to say that you won't know virtually anything about the effectiveness of this defense until the games. Our offense plays to its strengths in that we are relatively conventional and (more importantly) they are familiar. That allows them to apply the playbook more easily. When a team spreads us out, hurries us up, and misdirects our players, then they'll be forced to think more and react less which has been the criticism of the system. Then you find out how much progress they've truly made. I think our defense exists in a state where they are constantly teetering on the edge of losing all faith in the system, so if they get confused and don't succeed it can spiral out of control. That doesn't happen in practice with the same plays running over and over.

We'll be a more athletic unit which is good, but it may not appear as such if the athletic guys are stifled by their confusion.

I'm sorry, you said the defense is what???

I feel better about the offense, defense, QB position, rb position, wr position, lb, position, DL, secondary than I have felt the last 10 seasons.
Only unit that I question is OL.

He's made some nice hits, but he's been burned several times and out of position several times...that's why I think he would be awesome on some nickle, dime, and quarter packages we may run and allow him to blitz or come up to stop the run.

The Defense is better...and no, I'm not delusional. They are running harder to the ball...they are getting better pressure w/ the front 7 and the LBs are flying. Are they top 20 better?? Heck no!!!! Probably not even top 40...but they have look like a top 50 defense. Top 50 will win some games for us and not lose as many.

The OL has been trending down lately to the point that I see why we have been recruiting linemen so hard this cycle granted you always need them but that just seems to be a big focus.
LB position has been trending down due to depth obviously. But this position play will hlp decide the defense's fate this yr along with the DL
DB positions have been trending up which is a good thing. A lot depth and talent there. That Crawford always played with a lot of heart.
DL trending up from last year with the new additions
RB trending up with plenty of depth and talent.
WR and TE trending up with plenty of talent, would like for the TE position to really stand out this year, that is an essential part to our offense.
Special Teams trending up bc after the season last yr it felt as if it was going to be tough in the kicking game but it is still yet to see. Returners will be electrifying.
QB position is just trending right now until we select the leader and allow them to lead and find some kind of consistency and confidence.

Wyche is just out of shape, I don't think it's a question of "good" or not.

He's still out of shape 12 days before our first game and isn't even in the 2 deep yet. If that isn't disappointing to you, you are blind. Heurtalou might be the one that steps up at NT for us.
I feel much more confident about our DEs this year, but don't feel the same about NT, which would really suck if someone doesn't step up.

2 ) Wyche isn't as good as we all hoped.

thats not fair at all

Fair enough, he's not even in the two deep. But there's still a possibility.

I disagree and here's why...he was injured with an achilles heel, being a big man he can't move around like he needed to to get ready for camp. Then camp starts, he's now healed but dealing with the S. Florida heat, that a haul for anyone.

KC McDermott & Trevor Darling are both gonna be great. OLine will be fine.
