He just doesn’t have the talent and he knows it that’s why fear creeps in. If you know you that dude u won’t have that fearhe's shook out there.

Actually QB17
Since you guys are bumping old threads.. how about this take from 2.5 years ago.The flip side to this is people seeing him with Canes goggles and "adjusting their minds to justify" thinking that he must be good. We're recruiting him therefore he MUST BE good at this or that. We're recruiting him? Ok NOW I see it. He's legit.
I'll say it again, if he was a Napier or Norvell recruit I wonder how good that arm would look. Or as George Carlin said our stuff is stuff, their stuff is ****.
Pretty spot onThis one is moving too fast for me.
I have no problem taking a sleeper QB (look at the ratings of the NFL stars) and this is more of an eval than a last-minute scramble. He definitely looks like a P5 QB prospect.
But I’m concerned about athletic upside. The trend is toward dynamic talents and this kid appears to be a single-sport kid without a ton of twitch in his body. He is more polished than gifted.
I’ll withhold judgment until I can watch a few games, but there have been a few Canes fans from the panhandle who have seen him live and questioned the offer. Consider me concerned.
Clueless.I hope this isn't a real thing. Missing on Rashada was expected but this is a L regardless of highlights.
Agree with most of your initial points which is telling. D normally is sold rather easily (j/k) (kind of). Still not a fan of the kid and highlight tapes for QBs are the least interesting metric imo. His game tape screams JAG but he could end up a first round pick based off CIS scouts.
This is a commitment we can take in February if we strike out everywhere else. Something definitely seems off here, brought in a lot of big names to settle all of sudden is worrisome to say the least.

oof.Qb’s is one position stars go out the window. There’s a reason the best evaluators normally have the best qb’s, there’s also a reason why qb’s get an instant bump when a certain guru offers.
This kid hasn’t hit the seven on seven camp circuit hard as most , hes likely a four star when it’s all said and done.
turns out - this was spot ONMario is not a good evaluator of the qb position and Ponce is use to recruiting qbs like this in his history of coaching at group of 5 type schools.
Still feel the same way- we need athletes at QB. Doesn't have to be a runner, but we need fluidity and short-area quicks. But I’m concerned about athletic upside. Emory isnt even a good passer. there is nothing that screams he belongs in a p4 room. he needs to go FCS or D2.Still feel the same way- we need athletes at QB. Doesn't have to be a runner, but we need fluidity and short-area quicks.
This is one area where Luke Nickel looks significantly better than Emory out of high school.
He ended up an 88 in the final ranking so he was right there close to it. He also was invited to the elite 11. So context is nice. Btw wasn’t a Mario guy, it was a Ponce guy. Mario can’t evaluate qb’s. I never said the guy would be a starter here or good I just said I saw what they liked. The ball placement was very good and he showed good accuracy. It’s not like I said he’d be better than Arch Manning like some “ well respected “ internet guy.oof.

Future high school coach, in five years. Or maybe a stock broker or insurance salesman.
Agreed. I try to at least keep an open mind regarding recruits or younger players who haven’t played yet. Maybe it’s hopeless optimism or maybe I’m just not a miserable **** most of the time. But there comes a time when you have to call a spade a spade. The people going crazy because they beat Clemson with him and they “played FSU close” with him never made sense. Like did you even watch the game? You can’t tell me you watched him actually play and thought “**** this kid is great, he should be a starter”. It was clear he wasn’t physically capable and no amount of “he’s a winner” or “his teammates love him” can make up for it.I don’t care much about people looking for optimism when looking at commitments and trying to project their futures. Nothing wrong with that (within reason)
It’s a different story when you’re trying to do it while he’s actually playing games for us
I’m not big on trashing the players. It’s the coaches that put them in this position. Just more Miami things really
