Elijah Moore wins the Opening Orlando Regional WR MVP

This is a weird thread bump. So our former offensive staff, not a soul of whom are still here, missed on Moore and that means our current staff will have occasional misses as well? Ok, and? Pick any team in America and you can point out players they should have taken and didn’t and vice versa.

Or is the point that we have a select few on this board that really knows what they are talking about when it comes to evals? Ok, and?

I don’t get what you all are arguing about..

No doubt about it. It’s wash, rinse, and repeat. But the same posters keep on regurgitating the same talking points to defend the indefensible.

If guys that are not employed by a CFB team (@Liberty City El @gogeta4, @HighSeas, @LuCane, @Dwinstitles, me) can have have a better eye for talent than the guys that are being hired, you know that there is a serious issue.
facts im just a regular dude sitting home and sometimes i have better evals then guys making millions.

I never said it made it right. But yet we have this thread bumped to prove that “the wisdom of the crowd“ of CIS is correct versus the coaches. Maybe nobody got it right.

Or in this case, a few of the people that actually had watched this guy, coaches and so forth that post here, were very high on him. Which is good, those people are listened to.

But if I had the inclination, I’ll bet I could bump a bunch of threads were people were wrong about recruits. Some of the even so-called “experts“.

Bottom line is nobody ever gets it 100% right. Not here, not anywhere.

Can it be said with the knowledge of hindsight that this was a must have guy, well of course. But hindsight is always 20/20.

A lot of people were also clamoring for Kevin Austin.
This thread was bumped because the hardcore Slurpers try to marginalize posters for having opinions that run contrary to the coaching staff and several of those same posters were right on Elijah Moore - in the two bumped threads - so maybe there are times that we have posters who understand what to look for, and know the local scene, and they deserve some deference instead of the auto-dismiss they get from some because they think our coaches always know better.

This post is a complete figment of your imagination. Opinions by Gogeta, LCE and high seas are universally respected here. Coach macho as well.

Dudes diss @Coach Macho on here and they did it when he gave his opinion of how the staff recruits, as to process and evals. LCE and Geta weren’t on the Elijah Moore wagon but @CaneTheGaytors @The Franchise @Dwinstitles amd @Canemang all were... How do you treat those guys’ opinions?
Each is different, I respect some a ton, others none based on their body of work. Their opinion on a single player won’t move that needle.

Also there is a difference between who we recruit and how we recruit.

I’m not trying to excuse anyone or provide any type of new insight or countering anyone’s opinion. Just some observations. I’ve always said that at times it seems like sec teams find out about kids before we do or offer before we do. Look at the Jones-Bell situation and Bama. Or Jeudy not being offered or recruited hard by Golden. These sec coaches seem to have local youth coaches on speed dial.
As far as coaching staffs getting fired you have to at least consider the possibility that they had no shot with some of these kids to begin with. Again, some not all. The evals for the elite players have been good but after we don’t land them it’s downhill and are far behind in the recruiting processes for them.
I agree with some of this. I've been critical of Manny for being reactive. SEC programs are definitely focusing on So Fla kids from early on. We shouldn't be late to the party in our own back-yard. I know it's not 100% late 100% of the time, but we've clearly had too many situations where we're hesitantly recruiting guys who are in fact the exact guys we should have been hard at, while we're hard at guys we were never going to get and our staff is the last to find out. I don't buy the 'we weren't ever getting them.' We did this to ourselves. You keep trying or let someone else do the job.

As for our evals on elite players, adjusted for the nature of elite, they've been about as bad as our evals on non-elite players. Our record with top recruits the past 18 years isn't good. Evals isn't some thing impacted by stars, IMO. They tell us about measurables, mostly. The rest of it, either you know what you're looking for or you don't. Elite athletes may be better, all things considered, than non-elite athletes, but the missing pieces are common across our evals. We've not focused nearly enough on the kids with what it takes to continue to improve, grind and improve. Call it what you want, competitiveness, work ethic, drive, toughness. Also instincts/football IQ and physicality. (We've also messed up our screen of physical traits at some spots, but that's another thread.)

I don’t understand what point you’re trying to make.

no one claims there’s someone who is infallible. It’s a discussion. My contention (just mjne, not the same as the rest of this debate) is over time, two things come through: (a) when the knowledgable local Hs guys all agree on a kid sucking, he always sucks - I can’t think of a time that rule failed. (B) When those same guys all agree a kid is worth us taking and we don’t, he most of the time balls out elsewhere.

you’re distracted with this bama offer topic. It’s a fill in the detail, not a main point for anyone.

i do not recall your comment on harley, but others may.

i definitely don’t recall knowledgable posters crapping on richards. I’d be interested to see that if you find it. Iirc he was liked by smart posters.

in any case, you’re trying to erase the discussion with the ‘no one’s perfect‘ rap. That‘s neither here nor there. We know for certain our staffs have been very far from perfect, and not even particularly good, at evals for ages. They keep getting fired, also. So rather than find reasons why you shouldn’t listen to locals who know something, why not think about what they might know?
In all fairness, I will agree with @pacusmc regarding the AR15 threads. Specially the one where he first was offered. There were quite a few posters saying that he looked great because he was playing peewee league comp. Others thought his 40 times were too slow, even though he was torching guys on the reg during games. I even remember people saying that his 4.5 times in high school were slow.

Only when his ranking was upgraded, and Saban and ‘Baga came a calling, did most of the board change their tune.

The same thing happened with Travis Rudolph when he was originally offered, because at that time he wasn’t highly ranked. Others thought that he would be way better at CB, like our corching staph did at that time.

Bottom line is, our coaching staff has to do better, and it starts at the top. I’m excited to see a kid like Brashard Smith wearing the orange and green. I think that he is gonna be really special. We need way more dudes like him on the reg.

IIRC Richt liked the GA kid (Ezzard) more. Mighta been a Richt thang.

Richt and Dugans. Dugans was big on run blocking out of WRs, maybe that factored into him not wanting Moore. Dugans loved Wiggins.

We had the trio committed early and we’re looking for a fourth. Austin and X williams both turned us down. They were hot on Ezzard until his FSU commitment but came back around when that whole situation blew up.

It’s funny because Tyquan Thorton blew up his senior year and the staff was all over him, more so than ezzard. Still left Moore out to dry. Some adage about shiny toys applies here.

Pete had a post that says “Miami has enough receivers like Moore,” which sounds like a regurgitated justification as to why they’re passing via Matt Doherty more than Pete’s eval IMO.

Re our evals on elite kids, here's what I found for Coker (going back to '02, which is all I can get on Rivals). His top rated kids (4 or 5* on Rivals) by class. I know it's been a while since Coker, will get to the more recent ones, started here. If you want to know what happened to this program, look here. A couple good players, but roster and depth cratering began almost immediately. Remember, these are the highest rated kids by class.

'02:
- Best of group: E. Winston, B. Atkins, Sharp, Threatt, K. Brown
- Eval fails: Justus (injury aside), R. Moore, Jolla, Wood, Pou, Guillon
- Never got in: N. Harris (arrested), JR Mounts
- Didn't qualify, didn't help '02, entered in '03: Hester, Walden, Jenkins

'03:
- Best of group Olsen, Gooden, Pata, Hester, Beason
- Eval fails: KW, T. Moss, V. Franklin, Moncur, A. Bain, W. Cooper, D. Jenkins, Walden

'04:
- Best of group: C. Campbell
- Shrug: WW, Hendricks, C. Jones
- Eval fails: J. Bryant, R. Anderson, A. Johnson, Ponder, Leggett, Kirnobyl, McMeans
- Never got in: B. Washington, K. Heard

'05:
- Best of group: B. Johnson, S. Adkins, KP
- Shrug: C. Harris, RP, Trump
- Eval fails: Barney, Abdullah, Youngblood, D. Stewart, Dixon, Farr
- Didn't get in: Gordon

'06:
- Best of group: Fox, Shields
- Shrug: Gordon, Epps, J. James
- Eval fails: K. Robinson, R. Hill, T. Johnson, J. Holmes
- Didn't get in: Franklin (got in in '07)
- Never got here: L. McCoy

Bump it if you can. It's not how I recall it but I haven't looked back since he was signed.

Also, I'd pay no attention to the random fans saying this or that. Focus on the guys who know local RB or have developed a reputation for being knowledgeable or well studied on recruiting topics.

I’ll search for it.

Also, I agree with your point of not listening to random fans, and focusing on the guys that have a good track record when it comes to evals and recruiting topics.
