I don't disagree that he can be very frustrating to watch on offense and that sometimes he forces drives into the lane with little hope of success. But, other than the fact that he's one of our three best players and we need him to score, I think the problem with trying to tell Durand to not attack is that our offense is better when he is attacking under control.
Over his 4 years, there have been many games where he is a non-factor, and then at some point he decides that he's going to try to get to the basket, and uses his acrobatic ways to make layups, floaters, or create fouls, and I'm left wondering what took him so long or why he doesn't do that more. With Larkin, we're not as dependent on Scott's penetration or ball-handling, which is a good thing, but we still need him to make shots close to or at the basket. I'd much rather see him attack the basket than shoot 3s. All that being said, I wish he would make better decisions, especially at the end of games, but as a senior, it's not likely we're going to be changing much about his game. We just have to hope that he makes better decisions or that Larkin is the one with the ball in his hands.
