I was perusing the FSU 24/7 board and one of their fans made an interesting point...why haven't we used Duke in the slot?

Or screen passes. They threw one to Crawford in the 4th, that's it. Last year some of Duke's best plays were on screen passes.

Getting Duke the ball in the open field should have been a priority. Hopefully they make this a point next season.

He should be used in the passing game......
Duke one on one with a DB or LB? C'mon now. It seems we never pass to the RB anymore.....

why does it matter?

first it was why isnt Walford getting the ball more?.... well he got targeted more then any other receiver last night and he choked.

Last year Duke dropped every ball thrown his way in the slot and the play didnt look good anyway.....

"Duke in the slot" isnt a game changer, just like "Walford getting the ball more" isnt either.

Duke has already been overworked, run into the ground even, and you wanted him in the slot too?
- I bet you guys wanted him to return kicks as well.

Something else crazy I heard: we have been having a ****** quarterback trying to play safety.

Don't believe it. Nope. Not listening!!

So you think we did right by only pounding him in the running game instead of splitting him out wide and in the slot to catch passes along with getting him involved in the screen game?

Duke only having 4 receptions this year is criminal.

Duke caught 27 passes last year. Only 3-4 this year.

This is my beef. Duke was a mismatch all over the field last year and was electric when he caught the ball. Why on earth could we not do that again??? I like Coley the coach as I think he is a great recruiter and has ONE season as OC. However when you have Duke and have a prior year's worth of performance as an OUTSTANDING open field threat why can you not put him in space again. THAT AND ONLY THAT.

I am ok with the loss, like the way we fought, and it would had taken a minor miracle for us to win at Doak.

Having said that you need to use your weapons accordingly and Duke has been not been used properly this year.

i dont remember those passes last year having any success.....

what does it matter if Duke is getting the ball 1 way or the other?

lol you all just like to see a bunch of random **** on the field w/ no end game for no reason other then what?

Walford missed one pass last night. Far from choking. The bobbling was bad, but they ended up catches for positive yards. Duke would do fine in the slot. He was a "True Freshman" last year adjusting to the college level. Yeah he had a record year last year, but y'all act like he is a senior sometimes. Duke is only 19 years old. Given the opportunity, had he not been injured this year, I think he'd do fine.

I'd rather see Duke in the slot, than returning kicks. He could get touches in space, instead of on run plays and returns. Those touches would bring the beating he takes down precipitously. Would have allowed Dallas, OT, and Gus to get more touches as well, all the while keeping Duke on the field.

This isn't a bad idea at all. D'Anthony Thomas seems to do extremely well used that way, and I believe how he has stayed healthy for vast majority of his tenure in Oregon as a 165lb running back.

Y'all nukas need to chill. That game last night against a **** good team got y'alls jimmies rustled like nobodies business. We lost to the #2 team in the nation, not WF, or UNC. Get your heads out your butts.

God no. I'm ******* around about the overworked idea. The more the merrier with Duke receiving the ball. I would have liked to see and utilize the versatility out of the backfield and the slot.

Man what the **** are you talking about? How is wanting to get Duke the ball in space versus a LB or safety having no end game?

Duke in the slot is just ehhh to me. He hasn't looked great on WR screens or quick passes in the slot dating back to last year.
I'd like to see us utilize more RB screens though. Fisch ran middle screens and designed RB over the middle plays & they worked!

It's as if Coley didn't watch any film from the previous year. Why not use a lot of what worked for us last year?
I hardly see ANY Fisch route combos downfield.
