Its not a terrible offer. Other schools known for having good DLs have also offered (Pitt, Wisconsin, and Mich St.). Not a "whale", but appears to at least be a solid option even if just for quality depth in the future.

Too many of these not terrible offers (at d line, corner, QB, etc) and Pitt, Wisconsin, etc becomes our ceiling. We aren’t paying Mario $80mm and giving him a top tier NIL budget to be Pitt. But I understand your point.

Now we’re competing on the level we apparently should be competing on so do you think we have a better shot at landing one of the elite whales over Oklahoma and Ohio State as the high bidder or a Plan B Orca, who should be closer to our true plan A group, with $$$ over Pitt and similar schools on our current level???

Pitt as a whole hasnt been much, but Pitt's DL has been very good to elite for many years. Not saying this kid is as good as those we've missed on so far, but he could be part of a good future base and then get the stars after we have a better season this year ( fingers crossed).

Pitt also has a track record of developing defensive linemen. Does anyone have confidence that Joe is going to take a guy like this and develop him into a serviceable player?

Ya I do, at least somewhat. Obviously I have more faith in Partridge but I don't think Coach Joe is a bum coach.

The question is does the kid? Coach Joe seems to wear recruit repellent, and couldn't sell ice water in the heat dome or whatever the f**k it's called

If I were a kid in that spot and I had Partridge recruiting me as a Plan A, unless I’m some diehard Miami kid who’s a lifelong Canes fan, and Miami comes to me as Plan B, it’s going to take $$$ and I still have to believe I can be developed.

The way I see recruiting after the last 20 years is if we get something nice I’m happy about it in the moment, but if we don’t it is to be expected and just move on.

I’m not referencing work ethic.

More so the fact that they end up having to resort to plan B and C options because of misses. I get this happens to most staffs out there though.

But the fact that DT and CB recruiting continues to be an issue, regardless of who the coach is, is just a weird thing to see.
