Carrollton (Ga.) Top247 cornerback Dorian Barney tells InsideTheU that he plans to be in South Florida on March 3 as the Hurricanes get set to kick off their spring slate.

The Hurricanes offered the nation's No. 7 cornerback in January, but previous relationships with Zac Etheridge and Will Harris allowed Miami to quickly make up ground.

"Coach Etheridge, I've been in contact with him since he was at Auburn. I didn't talk to him when he was at Houston, but when I seen he got the job at Miami he hit me up immediately. I think it was like the next day. We've just been building that relationship ever since. With Coach Harris, he was recruiting me when he was at Florida, and then he went to Miami so that's making it a little easier for me to consider them," Barney said. "With [Mario] Cristobal, I just talked to him last week. That was my first time ever talking to him. They're all pretty good guys. [Terry] Jefferson, he's an assistant I've been keeping in contact with."

"Really just the vibe that I catch with them over the phone because I've never seen these guys in person, but you could tell when you're cool or you can hang or you get a good vibe with a person," Barney said.

"I just want to see everything. I just want to build that relationship with the coaches more and more, meet [defensive coordinator Corey Hetherman], and just really see how bad they want me because things are coming to crunch time. Looking forward to setting up my [official visits] before spring ball and then making my decision before my season," Barney said.

"I can see myself fitting into their program. I see with Coach Cristobal bringing the new defensive staff in," Barney told InsideTheU. "I feel like they're going to do really big things this upcoming season and after that."

He liked the way in which Miami's players were getting coached up. "All the coaches engage with the players," Barney said. "When they mess up or something, they correct them. If they get it right, they're cheering, but they still got room to improve on that."

"It helped some. Miami, they got on me a little late. They just got on me in January, so they're going to have to make a hard push for me to come."

Barney's spring visit plans include trips to North Carolina and Michigan. He also has an official visit locked in with Florida State from June 20–22. An official visit to Miami was discussed with UM coaches on Monday, but nothing concrete was set up.
