D'onofrio has now officially reached corch status....

This **** is comical.

It's gotten to the point where people hate D'Onofrio so much, every sound bite has a profound meaning that illustrates why he's garbage.

What exactly is wrong with his statement?

BTW if we "sent the house" on every play against KState, and the yardage and point total had been the same, would people be okay with that?

We.dont.have.the.personnel.

This staff is transitioning to a new system and are simply allowing the young kids burn this year. They intent to suck up the criticism and hold off the dogs until the kids have at least a year under their belts and new recruits are on board. These guys are looking at a 2-4 year timeline; not overnight.

By listening to his radio interview today, Golden is thinking long term and will not be changing his plan.

SHould be entertaining on the boards in any case.

What Dandy just said.

Al is either going to win with "his system" or get fired with "his system"..

I appreciate a man willing to stick to his plans.

What a horrible OP. What defensive coach is MORE concerned about yardage surrendered than points? His statement was fine. The results on the field suck.

Its the mentality..willing to give up yards and not points its the way he approaches the game...His personality is scattered all over his scheme. If your too blind to see that I dont know what to tell ya boss..nothing to see here

I'm not a fan of Coach D so far but I must admit we do play well in the redzone. The only issue is when we have turnovers on a short field after a long drive like Saturday from the offense you wear the defense down playing this bend but don't break defense. If you don't have a consistent offense you don't run a bend but don't break defense.

How is a coach supposed to stop any team when 80% of his unit are 1st and 2nd year players? Coach D may suck, but the defense was going to struggle this year no matter who coached them. Let's give him the season, and if we are as bad in late November as we are now maybe then it's fair to start calling for his head.

BV, you got context? I'm assuming he was asked which was more important, or asked about yardage. I agree his willingness to play bend defense is troubling, but in that context, I have no problem with the statement.

I'm beginning to doubt him, but we really do have a seriously weak, young defense this year. He's staying until at least the end of the season, so I'll reserve final judgement until late in the season.

If he continues to suck, I think he will be gone. Maybe friendship buys him one more year. But I know if Golden has to choose between OhNofrio and the unemployment line, OhNofrio going down. Golden doesn't want to coach San Antonio State or coach linebackers at TCU. That is the fate awaiting coaches who fail here.

Coach D would greatly benefit from a DLine coach that could teach quick hands/quickness/blockshedding. I am by no means coddling the DC, but we gotta use movement and diversion, versus freshman and sophmores trying to outmuscle their larger counterparts on the opposing OL.

Are you sure this is all on "personnel". What if the system he is running now is what Miami will always run. Same system ad last year, what makes you think it's going to change. I am sure Golden is thinking long term, and your right his plan/defensive scheme will not change. At some point the excuses need to stop. What is going to be the next excuse IF the defensive scheme still is not getting it done even with the "right personnel"?

What else is he going to say? Realistically he can't stop teams from moving the ball with this defense. His only hope is to win one third down per drive (most drives) and be good in the red zone to try to hold teams around 20-24 or so. That is how he has set his defense up as well. Saying he expects to dominate only sets him and the team up to look like losers. It's not going to happen. I guess in a few more months we'll reach quote parsing territory with Golden and his crew just like we did with Coker then Shannon.

Pennmed Cmon..thats the mentality you want your D coordinator to have? Really brah?

You're quote parsing. That's message board *****. No defensive coordinator ever wants to give up anything. In a perfect world he'd give up 0 everything. But if you ask him some dumb ***** like "Hey you guys are giving up like a million yards a game, what do you think about that," you get something like he said. And he knows that his defense at least for this year is set up with the goal of winning some critical downs and the red zone and thus minimizing points. Regardless of what people think of D'Onofrio even the most ardent hater would admit that we don't have the personnel to deny people yards.

.some guys go on dates kiss a bytch goodnight on the porch and go home ... some guys try to hit on the first night even though they know chances are slim...but knowing theres a chance..

Those who hesitate, **********

You cannot blame this all on the personnel. I expected growing pains, I'm sure everyone did, but this bend don't break playing scared has permeated the defense. They have taken on his words, don't worry about giving up a **** ton of yards, just hold them to field goals. Problems occurr when teams like Kansas St. don't kick field goals, they score touch downs and run and throw the ball right down your throat.

Dandy, once again, yours is the most sane, rational, logical and thoughtful post on a very touchy topic. It's appreciated.

I prefer instant gratification, but thankfully there are some like you who can cool my jets with sound observation, logic, and reflection.

Points allowed is the only stat that matters. I dont give a **** if we give up 500 yards every game if we hold them to 15-20 points per game and give our offense a comparable number of plays. The problem is 40ppg, not 500 yards per game.

Hey Hawaii..how many possessions is our offense gonna have giving up 500 yards a game...are you serious dude? Do you realize last year are offense was 103rd in the NCAA in plays ran? You wanna know why? Because are ***king defense was always on the field!!!! How else do you explain finishing 17th in scoring defense with a ***king 6-6 record!! You really think our offense was that bad!!! Cmon Hawaii!!!!!! We need 3 and outs god damm it not 10 and a field goal!!!!

This. That style of defense works if you have an offense that can ball control and eat clock(Like KSU or Alabama). That way even if the defense stays on the field for a long time they will have plenty of rest in between series. When that style of offense mixes with that style of bend but don't break defense it works by producing close shirt ball games with 17 to 13 type scores.

We don;t have that type of offense, with Fisch we never will.3 yards and a cloud of dust is not his offensive style. Plus we are not able to slow offenses down when they get in the red zone anyways.

I would much rather be aggressive and maybe force a turnover and then try and get the ball back to the strength of the team which is our offense.

Good coaches adjust their schemes to their personnel. Long term might be their goal to be more reactive and sit back in zone all the time but our current personnel does not support that strategy.

You don;t have to all out abandon the preinciples of your defense just adjust how aggressive your are and how often.
