Coached against him in high school felt he was just solid...very straightline....not that strong..stiff. Just saw a solid player never thoguht of him as a 5 star...i think he was listed at that b4 the reclassification as a projection because he was good early on in his career and expected to be like a 6'4 230 pd sr in high school....not a 6'4 230 pd jr in college
i dont think he was a five star post reclassification

That and well, we sucked.

I admitedly don't recall whatever drama or whatnot surrounded this guy, but when we were all calling for the head of Manny, why should someone be held accountable for seeing what we saw? A corch, you gonna play for a corch?

It's funny how people get all butt hurt when someone doesn't come here but in their next breath ask for the head guy to be canned. What a strange world some live in here.

Serious question. You're a recruit and obviously a big Cane fan since you're here. Gattis is retained, you're an offensive recruit, are you coming here? Would any of you fault an offensive recruit dipping out on is right now? Where's the difference?

Speaking only for myself, it depends on whether the staff is the reason for the recruit's decision, or simply a post-hoc rationalization to provide cover for the recruit's decision. In this case, it was pretty obvious it was the latter.

I also don't think most fans get "butt-hurt" at the recruit for going elsewhere when the team/coach is bad, but they do get upset when the recruit disrespects the team. That's a factor for many of us, and I think it's a fair one.

And for all of Manny's faults, DEs in his scheme tend to do well, so the comparison with Gattis being retained isn't apples for apples. I can understand a QB or WR seriously questioning coming to play in Gattis's offense. But a DE in Manny's defense? Roche, Rousseau, Phillips, Garvin, J. Jackson, C. Thomas all played under Manny at UM and got drafted. That's different.

Of course fans get butt hurt with a switch of schools no matter the reason or timing. The reasons don't matter one bit and the departing players get labeled everything under the sun.

The comparison is valid in that both coaches are or were on the hot seat. Fans were counting down the days until they were no longer retained.

You also can't point to a bunch of late round signees in Joe Jackson (round 5) and Jonathon Garvin (round 7) as some sort of proof that he should come here. Chad Thomas came in as a 5 star, got picked up in the 3rd. Rousseau played great, no question about that and looked every bit a stud. Roche and Phillips though hadn't even played a down and the former wasn't even on the roster when he put pen to paper.

None of the above matters though as Manny wasn't expected to be here long at that time. You seriously wanted him to get on board a sinking ship because of some mediocre draft results to that point?

As for him disrespecting us, I don't remember that. I'm not saying it didn't happen, I just don't remember it. I really wouldn't even care since I wasn't a coach here at that time. When it's someone we once recruited, there's two things I'd consider as a coach. Can he help us be a better football team? Is he a headcase with baggage and history? He checks those things then recruiting is on.

Seems like a major health risk. Jaelen Phillips is the exception, not the rule, for people returning from major health issue and being very good.
Jaelan also played like a first rounder before being a Cane as well.
