Do we put 8 in the box and force Driskell to beat us in air

When did we become some amazingly physical team that can shut down good running teams while playing cover-2?

I was wondering the same

U Tough over the off season mane....

but for real though Miami shouldnt have to worry about "loading" the box until it becomes obvious that we cant stop the run in our usual defensive sets.

D'onofrio's scheme is aggressive enough against the run, so we'll see if the added weight for our D-lineman and Linebackers will show up on the field.

What doesn't get talked about is other than Harrison Florida's offensive line has very little starting experience. If Humphries can't go then they're playing the kid who transferred in from Maryland at left tackle and they're going with Thurman at guard who has played very little. Koehne has 4 career starts. Moore is another kid who tranferred in from Nebraska. He had four starts but they lost his position. So I do like this match up for Miami.

I think you mix it up. Unfortunately there is little chance at getting pressure with just Porter, Pierre, Chick, and Green. We'll need to bring pressure from the LBs and the secondary. Not having a 100% Deon Bush is going to hurt us.

Those 4 might not be the best unit we have at getting sacks but they do a good job of creating pressure in the backfield though...... especially the inside duo of Porter and Pierre.

Regardless Miami got pass rushers so i expect the defense to still be able to get after it behind the LOS this weekend.

Hopefully Jones is not recovered from his illness as he runs hard and would be a test. Humphries is on their depth chart as starter this week. Driskells main threat is as runner, though he has a good arm he is erratic at best and he has totally unproven receivers. With players like Gilbert and McCord you can line them up as DE's or LB and keep them off balance.

I don't think we will. Their offense is not explosive naturally but give them a lot of one on ones and they may hit a few. The thing is their OL is really depleted for depth and it will be a factor in the hot *** humid atmosphere that's gonna be saturday

Wondering to when our dline became better than UFs oline? based on what??
I think we have improved but we HAVE to put 8 in box, blitz and rattle Driskel. If you
give him time, even he can pick us apart.

When our players got bigger and stronger and more physically mature. College football teams evolve. They're not always the same as they were the previous season. I don't know if we're "amazingly physical", but we're way more physical than last year and much bigger and more mature along the front. When did uf@g become an amazingly physical team that can't be stopped in the run game?

Oh I know we're bigger and more physical, but that doesn't mean we can stay in 2-high and stop the run. (yet) Not many teams can do that.

How do we go from not being able to stop ANYBODY from running the ball to all-of-a-sudden being able to stop the run out of 2-high?

Obviously game will dictate. I think we start out base 4-3/3-4 and mix coverages. With their QB not being the greatest of passers at this point and lacking experience, changing coverages will keep him thinking. Should Driskell start beating us with his legs I would spy him initially and mix in blitzes. If putting 8 in the box is the answer I am all for it, however, that will leave our DBs on an island in coverage. We have yet to prove we can play effective defense that way. I personally want to bring at least 5-6 every play blitzing various gaps to pressure Driskell and limit the run. I HOPE we don't need to put 8 in the box every play because if they pick up the blitz, we will get exposed deep and they could get some easy scores.

I thought our corners looked good last week. We definitely have more talent in our secondary than UiF does at WR. Not sure if those guys are ready yet for the big stage because guys like Burton certainly will be.

I would take my chances though. Howard was brought in for games likes this.

We have to come ready for them to pound the rock all day. This game will be won on the line of scrimmage. We have to come ready for war in the trenches.

I want to see our LB's fill like nobody's business. Perryman and Figs should each have some wow hits in this game.

Agree they looked good, but it was against FAU. My personal .02 is I would rather have Driskell throwing than running. I don't think he can win a game with his arm at this point.

We had a few bad games last yr against the run, however we were just bad in general last yr. However, we appear to be much healthier, stronger, and it seems as though UF is a bit beat up on the OL. Heck, we had DP miss games last yr, Bus really didnt come on until later in the yr, then got hurt. EJ was hit of miss as to wether he could even suit up. We had a couple games where Moore or King started as frosh. I just think that with Renfrow, Porter, LRob, Pierre we have much better DTs than a yr ago. I dont think we will run much 2 high anyway, I think it will be more of a one high robber type with some lower to help keep the underneath stuff from killing us. Hopefully we see a lot of man on the outside, zone under. Or some zone blitzing, or safety, or corner blitzes to create pressure in obvious passing downs. I think we will see 8 in the box on occasion and we will see 6in the box on occasion.

Agreed, but for many years (especially under Randy) we always played this way, regardless of personal. We did last year too. Miami has not had an aggressive strategy on Defense since 2000 under Greg Schiano. Knock Dennis Erickson all you want, but his D always came for blood.

Hopefully we can stop the run without commiting 8 men in the box. If we go to 8 in the box -even though i like our db's vs their wr's,Driskell could hurt us on broken plays when our guys turn & run in man cvg

This **** offensive line looks like it could be one of the worst, if not the worst line our defense faces all year.
I know the coaches are saying, "it's a deep, veteran line," but that's coach speak. You ask Golden in public, and he will tell you Savannah State is a great team and a great challenge for us.

Their center has a lot of experience. The rest of those guys wouldn't be in the mix with our top 8 linemen.
