I mean... year 4 was the old timeline when you had to fully rebuild through HS recruiting and there was no short cut. Now, there's a short cut to do it in 1-2 years via the portal. Mario failing in year 4 would put the nail in the coffin for me.If you look at Mario's timeline and what @DMoney and the Miami resources were saying last year was essentially this, and I'm paraphrasing "Cam Ward moved up the rebuilding timeline to successful now because he is a TALENT, so lets take it and run"
With that being said, that means that this year is the year in Mario's timeline that he expects consistent play and this year was the year of his recruited players, culture , etc will pave the way forward.
There is truth to this, when you look at certain position groups, I.e, OL, DL (it's better then one thinks regarding depth), LB (if you look at composite stars on that group alone), DBs (now that he flipped the room), TE (WAS great, just timeline didn't workout, but still good enough to get an ACC ship), WR (still missing a breakout WR1) and QB (discussed as nauseum that the SOP is to pay for proven commodity, i.e., transfer portal qb, and find gems for development).
This is Mario's timeline, so I'm most excited about this season, because he's built this team from the ground up, and the roster is designed now to be a run reliant team with a QB that works well with TE and play action with enough athleticism and a stronger defense (i.e., Saban Bama blueprint)
Caveat that by saying I think he's absolutely on the right path and I don't expect him to fail this year. Year 3 was right where it needed to be. Could have been better in hindsight with what we had but it was acceptable if you asked me year 1 where I hoped we would be in 2024.
