DJ Ivey impressing

That last part about “in the league” just gaslit yourself
Guys underperform in college and make it in the pros. Maybe it’s the wrong system. Better coaching. The fact he has more than 20 hours per week to work with coaches. But I stand by what I said. He obviously has good measurable and work ethic so maybe he finds his way to being a high caliber corner. Or at the very least he makes the roster after training camp and plays specials or something. I wish him well

I’m just busting balls. I think the DJ Ivey conversation from the last 5 years here we’ve covered everything

I can tell you from watching him in practice for years now that his issue isn't how he processes information CONSISTENTLY. His issue is SOMETHING about when the lights come on gets caught in his head. He knows exactly what he should be doing. But he's the type of kid that needs constant positive reinforcement. He needs to be reminded that he's fine. Otherwise he questions each and every moment in time. His biggest problem is he needs to stop questioning himself or worrying about blow back from fans. He's one of those kids really affected by the negativity & it's sad cause he's a GREAT KID.

That's kind of sad.

He needs to know, making it to college on a scholarship is a proud accomplishment in it's own right. To add to it, he started how many years and games? He graduated from college.

Those first two things are something that 99 percent of this board couldn't do in any sport and the same is true of those in the stands yelling whatever bs his way. That last part is true to whatever degree as well.

Lastly, he got drafted. I don't care what round, there's not a lot of people that can say that. Someone saw something in him, he needs to believe that version of himself and let the rest go. He's got a chance and not many get to say that.

Say he flops in the NFL, that's okay as well. [BGCOLOR=initial] Everyone has to hang them up at some point. I hope he makes it, but he's carried himself like a man should all along the way, never gave up, and to this point in his life he's got a **** load to be proud of. [/BGCOLOR]

There’s an opinion that I’ve left off of the board about a certain player in particular because it’s just not necessary and it would lead to nothing but negative reactions and meltdowns

But I’ll just say, I agree

Anyway, great to see about DJ. He’s a Cane all
the way
James has had busts and missed tackles, no denying that but our All-American safety had a good amount of busts gambling on plays too.

Tyrique was our most consistent DB by a mile.

I’m just gonna drop your comment a like and leave it be. But I’m with you.

I really cant wait to see Williams and Kam under Guidry though

Anyway, same page brother. Happy for Ivey for continuing to push on

Gonna be hard for Kam to replicate production he had last season with defense change..

Obviously with more experience he will still be top notch but complete different scheme that changes responsibility of safeties will limit ability to roam and eat..

I believe every word you wrote and this explains a lot. I‘m pulling for him, and every player who sacrificed for UM.
Boy if some coach can tap thru the issue you are describing (it reads like insecurity) they will get a steal for a 7th round pick.

I always try to remind him of that

Plenty of the breakdowns we saw were on dj. But vast majority of them was on the same safeties y'all swear are amazing. Y'all simply don't know what coverages were in and who's assignment is whose. But let's stick with always blame it on the underrated dudes cause it's more convenient than saying that five star safety ****ed up again...
Bruh, Most of the **** I give Ivey is for comic relief. Truth is…. the guy has to have some skills to get as far as he’s gotten. To get multiple staffs to keep running him out there, he has to be a player. Dude is a NFL DRAFT pick. How many of us can say that? NFL teams don’t pick dudes just to be picking dudes. They obviously see the skill set, and think that he can add value to their team. But for whatever reason, he just didn’t seem to put it all together, yet. I also know enough about football to understand that rarely is one guy to blame, when opposing WRs are running free through the secondary. Most fans see the back of Ivey’s jersey chasing guys, and assume that he’s to blame. It’s true he’s not always the one who’s made the mistake, but he’s easy to pick out. He’s low hanging fruit, so to speak. Hopefully he can straighten out whatever his deficiencies are, and have a long career. For all the crap he’s taken, dude is a true Cane, that never backed down from a challenge, and I wish him nothing but the best.

“I’m intrigued by cornerback DJ Ivey, a 7th-round pick out of the U of Miami who is 6 feet tall with the wingspan of a pterodactyl and 4.46 speed.
“I love DJ Ivey,” said cornerbacks coach Chuck Burks. “I think he has the traits you need to play that position at a high level.”

Quote is from Dan Hoard who covers the Bengals. Of course we all know he was a greentree all American. Still nice to see.

Another staff fooled!

Maybe being away from his hometown will help with those points. No one will know him by name in Cincinnati, OH, unless he starts making plays….which if he does that, he will have overcome the “bright lights/game time” phobia thing.

I personally thought DJ had his best season at UM last year and even though it wasn’t an ALL ACC performance, it was enough to give himself a shot at playing in the NFL. I think he makes the most out of it and winds up as one of the 53

Curious how his career goes now that he's working with different coaches. We all heard for years how great he looked in practice. From multiple sources. Maybe it will transfer to in game settings now.

All the best DJ. If he turns out to be a pro bowler y'all will be claiming him hard tho lol
Exactly! These “grown men” can’t control emotions. Always always always root for the players that put on the uniform for this team. If everyone on here got dragged thru the mud everytime they made a mistake in their profession, not many would have a job. These young men sometimes need what Dee explained to succeed

I been on the Ivey bus since his Soph year. Every off-season I've pumped him up against the grain. Really was bummed that his performance against TAMU didn't snowball into an All-Conference year. One of the best games of his career, and it looked so natural for him that it makes you wonder where tf was that against some teams that, at the very least, didn't have burners pitted against him. People don't want to admit it, but he had a really good game against Alabama too outside of a couple plays that ended in complete disaster. I'm excited to see if he can gain some confidence and put on in the league.
