After *****waters first completion he said that after watching film on Miami we run a lot of quarters and 3 deep.

Why the **** are are running prevent most of the game? I use to support donofrio because these SRs aren't very good but we will never win by giving elite QBs open zones to throw all over the field.

How did you use to support D'Onofrio until this very point. The last 6 games alone should've been reason enough to recognize the Titanic that's D'Onofrio.

Been happening for years now. We play passive on defense and then on the flip side have to watch every decent defense get up in our grill.

I dont know as a coach how you can sit there and watch the difference and not think changes are needed. Its beyond embarrassing what we have our kids doing out there. We run a scheme that confuses our players more than the offense. Its soo predictable for QB to see where pressure is coming from yet our guys are always looking confused getting lined up.

Totally opposite of what a defensive scheme should be, it should be attacking and simple for your players while giving the offense fits. Look at UL for example, they manned up played with a safety deep (which eliminated our big play offense) and on third down did nothing but standup their dline and all those guys knew who was coming but our oline and kehoe remained dumbfounded all game.

It's called "Bend but don't Break" defense. He is genuinely is content with giving up yards all day as long as he doesn't give up the home run play. He settles for FG's in the redzone and crosses his fingers while closing his eyes that the opposing team makes a mistake.

When I see Highsmith, Gaines, Cornelius and green he got a pass from me. They are prolly the worst sr defensive nucleus at a BCS conference program aside from the AAC.

I wanted to believe he was good. The purpose of a defense is not to give up a single yard. Not to give up hundreds of yards and not give up points. When I see Charlie strong coaching his guys up to not give up an inch yet we are happy to get a tackle after a 6 yard gain. It was the final straw for me.

And right or wrong, it worked for the first half until our DBS got beat giving up TDs. In position, but did not make plays.

It sucks, but it is reality. Players and coaching.

That S works against inept MAC opponents. I have never witnessed a worse Defense in my life the last 2 years. No adjustments, no out of box thinking, and worst pash rushers I've ever seen.

Michigan State runs a lot of Cover-4, or quarters coverage. If done well, it works against spread offenses.

Agreed. But state has bosses on the DLines, physical and very active LBs, and ball hawking DBs who hit. They run a base 4-3, which I think MIAMI should run at least 60% of the time.

Lulz we didn't force a punt the whole first half. Great defensive philosophy. Why give up three ******* points, when you can stop them from driving and give your offense better field position. Thats how a defense is supposed to work.
With Golden's philosophy, might as well give them the ball in our redzone and just start there. Dumbest and gayest football philosophy I've ever seen.

And exactly how many spread teams does Mich. St play in the Big 10?

im not buying running quarters from the best D in the NCAA. Quarters and Cover 2 can look almost identical. Especially if u run a cover2 against a team who doesn't stretch vertically a lot on O.

our D isn't exactly really just a cover 4 or cover 3. The position that Shayon plays has a lot to do with success or fail every play.
EX.

Depending on the call Gaines gives and the coverage shell, Shayon green may rush or drop. The main problems are the cushion. then the d line doesn't attack. so dropping eight behind a soft rush does NO favor. Then you can add the fact that shayons knees aint good …

TOO MUCH THINKING. Scheme is too complex. It could work in the NFL because the best of the best and free agency. But why would you run a complicated 2 gap scheme when u only have guys for 3-5 yrs? also the players need to BEEF up to work this scheme that may take 2 yrs. Not to mention these beefy guys lose speed and then are asked to bump over into space.

D'Onofrio is not the complete issue its golden who is really behind the defensive issues which is the real reason he has not fired D'Onofrio. Head coach always has the final decision and if the defense is so bad you mean to tell me the head coach would not step in at any moment when its his team.
