Discussion Piece: What needs to be added to the team

I don’t want any QB who has a suspension on his record. We’ve seen enough of that between Weldon, Kosi and Jarren.

I think every situation is different. I actually think in this instance it could help motivate the players in the QB room because they would all realize they have a short leash. Though I respect Kosi for maturing as much as he has in the past yr, his limitations as a QB ultimately prevented him from truly threatening Jarren's PT.

Considering our line ain't the best so having a immobile qb isn't ideal.
But it’s the spread. Everything revolves around tempo and getting the ball out as soon as possible. Yes our line isn’t good but it’s talented enough to give a QB like KJ to get the ball out quick. Brad was an even worse athlete and his best years were when we were running spread elements with coley.

I dont know City, DUffey do you see his win loss record? 2 years and dude barely won any games Costello can throw , Buechele didnt run either at SMU and they did fine with him
I'm not worried about W/L record for a QB in college, there's lots that factor into that, Pat Mahomes never won more than 7 games in a season at TTech, that program has no Defensive talent at all.

Buechele didn't have to run at SMU because their OL was good enough for him to get rid of the ball quickly & he ran that same offense in HS & at Texas so it was easy for him to ball at SMU.

Costello can't move at all, like slower than Kaaya with less arm talent, he'd get killed behind this OL.

Ideally yes he’ll get the ball out quick but there’s going to times where he’s flushed out the pocket and then what?

Hope he’s more Ben Roethlisburger than Brad Kaaya? Don’t know what to tell you. One thing I will tell you though is that I’m not trading a superior arm talent because another guy has a better 40 and nowhere near the arm.

Duffey's character concerns are being blown out of proportion. As a 5th yr player he will definitely be on his best behavior because he realizes this is his last rodeo. He could do very very well in this Offense and throw for 3500+ yds.
Suspension for Title IX stuff is probably not going to fly I'd guess.

So I decided to make one thread for the multiple transfer thread that will ultimately pop up just to save the from clutter.

I’ll start off by saying my opinion on what is needed.

QB: One of KJ Costello, Anthony Brown, and Jett Duffey need to be added here. It’s painful to add Feleipe Franks but even he would be a plug and play starter here as well. Really hard pressed here because we’re behind the 8 ball and already missed out on Jake Bentley who probably would’ve been the best fit. I would say Jaime Newman but he’s going to a place to bolster his draft stock, not a place like Miami with a new OC. Maybe a FCS name who’s trying to get notoriety will pop up but I haven’t heard of anything like that.

WR: We need to add 2 big bodied guys. I personally would love to add Tarik Black and Dee Anderson from LSU to the room. I wouldn’t really be thrilled about Justin Shorter because he has drop issues and wouldn’t be upset about Scott Bracey and Aaron Young from Duke but I believe Black and Anderson have the most upside of the bunch. I would say give a look to Jordan Jones out of Arkansas a look but idk if he’ll be eligible immediately.

OT: We need to hit here hard. I would personally add Henry Hattis and move him inside and I would add TJ Storment as a RT. I’m willing to let Zion start the year at LT being that he shouldn’t have been a starter there in the first place. He should’ve been a redshirt BUT he’s really athletic and has fixable technique issues. Devery Hamilton to me needs to be a backup plan because he’s never been a starter at one spot and has always moved around. Another name that’s interesting is Zach Robertson from ASU but he missed a lot of last season.

DE: This should be a luxury, not a necessity. Adding Quincy Roche though is a no brainer and IF he wants to come here he’s a plug and play starter who probably gives us one of the deepest DE rooms in the country.

LB: We need to add 1 because of how inexperienced we are here. I would go after Tyree Thompson from UCLA and he’ll should immediately be a top 3 Back here. That’s really it for LB. Not much to choose from

CB: We need at least 1 here But I would go with 2. Obi Eboh is a immediate top 3 guy and would probably start opposite Al. I would then go for Greg Ross to round it out there.

K: Borregales or bust. Simple as that
The names you listed for each position I agree with. If Moises is able to academically qualify and gets added to our 2020 recruiting class, then we would only have 6 available spots left for new players. If we are able yo land CB Rakestraw and OT

I agree with the names that you mentioned in your OP at each of the positions. However, if Moises qualifies academically and is added to our current 2020 recruiting class, then that would only leave us with 6 available spots for new players per NCAA rules. If we are able to land CB Rakestraw and OL Brady Ward (I think we have a decent chance to land both) who are both set to take official visits before February signing day, then we would only have 4-5 available spots for transfers. If this indeed turns out to be the case, then I would use those 4 spots on a QB(Costello or Brown or Duffey), two OL (Hattis and Storment), and DE(Roche). Roche is a must take because he would be unstoppable opposite Rousseau. If we have an extra spot available for a 5th Transfer player then I would take a K (Borregales).

Just posted this on another thread. Appropriate here as well imo:

Safety room:

Gilbert Frierson-RS SO
Keontra Smith-RS FR
Amari Carter-SR
Bubba Bolden-RS JR
Gurvan Hall-JR
Jalen Harrel-FR
K Washington-FR
Brian Balom-FR

Can get all the vitrol against Rumph, who I really like as a teacher, for his recruiting. But overall Banda has recruited a steady stream of 4 Star caliber guys and just about every highly rated guy he's had under him has turned into a good player.

Think the constant calling for his head, and the reasons behind it, are getting to be a little over the top.

Imo he hasn't been spectacular on the trail, but solid. Spacing of classes are good as are the numbers. And the guys he's coaching on the field have developed nicely.

Jmo.
That group isn’t impressive outside of 2 guys. I like smith too but he was basically a LB in hs

5 offensive linemen made up of any combination of juniors, seniors and 5th year seniors. Not scrubs, but they dont even have to be all American. Just give the qb 20% more time than the average for all of college football.

I think everybody is getting too caught up with Costello playing in a pro system. He was a 60% - 65% QB in that system. Imagine him in a spread? The spread is far from complicated and a guy of that arm talent will light it up.
Z, great write up. What about D’eriq King?

Buechele had designed run plays in Lashlee's offense. I posted highlights of him running a naked-boot leg for a first down in another thread. Wasn't exactly poetry in motion, but he got the first down.

Maybe TVD can be our Howell. I think he's plenty athletic enough to run Lashlee's offense. It helps too that our schedule is very soft.

Gilbert Frierson-RS SO - JAG
Keontra Smith-RS FR - Hasn't played enough to tell
Amari Carter-SR - JAG
Bubba Bolden-RS JR - Looked solid in limited action this year
Gurvan Hall-JR - OK this year with some terrible moments
Jalen Harrel-FR - Hasn't gotten here, but solid in high school
K Washington-FR - Total project who will probably never play meaningful snaps
Brian Balom-FR - Wouldn't have been recruited if not for lack of depth in the secondary

That's not a very good recruiting record.
But, thats your opinion!...as long as those are still in a miami uniform means there still chapters left to be written. And, hopefully change your opinion of them.

Solid list. I would go all in regarding O Linemen and the portal, plus cut from the team Hillery, Hebert, dude we got from Iowa last class, and any other JAG. ****, I would tell donaldson that he needs to cut weight and stop being lazy over Spring/Summer, or I cut his slow *** as well.
