Dinner with Coach Golden

did anyone ask him why he refuses to change the defense? how he can talk to anyone with a straight face after getting embarrassed over and over again running the exact same garbage scheme?
He has had that asked of him on the radio several times. His answer is, that this is their fourth year teaching this defense. Most of his two deep are in their 3rd and 4th year under this defense. To start over and teach a whole new system to these guys would probably not yield the results they expect the defense to have this year.

He has covered this with Joe Rose and Hurricane Hotline if you would like to look it up.

FSU switched defenses last year and still finished with the #3 defense and #1 against the pass....

And jimbo did not have the NCAA hanging over his head the past three years and has been recruiting for FSU like a decade. Who cares, we will be better with better players this coming year.
So going by your rationale "the cloud" = players cant learn the system as fast?????

Duke has never been blazing fast, he just has great vision and a beast of a stiff arm. We all saw him get caught a few times.
IMO the season hinges on the QB play, if we can be at least above average, and yes....get the ball to the play-makers, we'll be alright.

Have to disagree. Dukes always been fast. His game reminds me of a mix of Chris Johnson and Maurice Jones-Drew. Which is no knock at all, both great rbs. I wouldn't say he has the top end speed like Dorsett or Coley although very close. But he is up there in terms of speed. Your selling him short.

When you talk in terms of true elite speed. Guys like Coley or Sammy Watkins. Dukes fast. But they are on a rare level of fast.

Duke has strong lower body, a tough stiff arm, wiggle, and ability to lower the shoulder and speed. But his skill that sets him apart from other backs is his vision and ability to take over games. He can make plays out of nothing. Duke is a special player just as Coley is too. Have a great situation on our hands.

If Chris Johnson had Duke's heart, toughness and vision he would have rushed for 2200+ yards every one of his seasons in the NFL.

Most of you guys seem to forget that this kid is absolutely special. He's certainly fast enough. He's tough as nails. He runs in short yardage like he's a 230lb back ye he has elite short area quickness, and his vision is comparable to guys like Emmitt Smith.

Just a special back, and seemingly a pretty nice kid with outstanding character.

This, but with the addendum that I'll be paying close attention to how our first year QB develops over the course of the season. If game one and game 14 or whatever look the same I'm buying a torch from Jedi and going after Coley.

Going to be a very interesting season. I feel like a few little things could pull our team one way or another

To me the opener vs Louisville will tell pretty much the whole story. If we get beat/lose badly I could see the wheels falling off immediately.

I'm all over the place on what I think our final record will be.

That KState game in person was painful to say the least. Following up on your post about the LBs we just got owned in that game physically which hurt obviously realizing how far away we were at that time

You think it was painful for you. I sat there with my two KSU graduate nephews and then spent the rest of the day in Aggieville with them celebrating their win. Did I mention I had told them for years we would destroy them if they ever had the guts to play us.

Really wanted to see Coley/Williams this year to see the interaction compared to Coley/Morris that way we could have had a clearer picture of just what Coley wants to do at times. Stating the obvious but I love our linebackers and Grace is going to make a lot of plays this season. He's too natural and too good to keep off the field.

The LB commentary was also in reference to increased depth at the position vs. coming off of the KState game a few years ago where there was only 3 LBs and Fentress had to play. Also that he was really looking forward to McCray and Smith is the mix.

Said that Dobard, Carter, Burns and Coley have taken on an attitude of working extremely hard independently and that has changed a dynamic within the locker room.

If anyone follows Jamal Carter on IG/twitter--- the kid has been puting in serious work! He looks about 220 of pure muscle. Last night he posted a video of him working out at midnight on the beach. Kids with that attitude refuse to lose. We haven't seen that hunger in a very long time. Hopefully some of our other guys are doing the same. I know Deon, Tracy, Duke have been.

Leaders of the new school! Give me those type of guys over the 4 and 5 stars who don't bring that. Yes I know Duke, Deon and Tracy were all 4/5 but not all these guys are.

I expect this team to be looking like an honest to god UM team by the end of the year.

And Duke has great burst but he's a high 4.4 40 guy, which btw is **** fast. I bet Tucker sticks with him in a 40.

And USC had 17 players that were 4-5 star players in their 2 deep accounting for 80% of their total tackles
Miami had 9 accounting for 35% of TT.

Furthermore, the majority of Miami tackles came from 2-3 star players accounting for 60%.

As you can see next time you open your mouth you may want to know what you're talking about.

Lulz....Specifically, what did I say wrong? So USC could recruit under a cloud but Al couldn't?

You really want to compare the powerhouse USC program that Pete Carroll built up over 10 years ability to withstanding sanctions to the Miami program Golden inherited ability to? Are you really this dense?
The 2013 still had a core talented and veteran players recruited by the current Super Bowl Champ winning coach while our core of SR's were recurited by a guy that's coaching LB's somewhere in Arkansas. The guy that went to Fort Pierce High School and managed over look the best LB in the draft an instead recruited a JAG in Luther Robinson. 4 of USC's top 5 defensive players were Carroll recruits.
You really want to go there? I don't think you do So do us a favor and Don't play dumb.
USC's defense had one of the most talented defenses in the nation.. That's what they were able to switch to a different scheme and not miss a beat. Not for other reasons you happen think were the reasons.

You guys are too caught up in 40 times..what really matters is quickness which the duke has... what we used to do is chase chickens around the yard of course back in those days south florida was much more rural and all.. of course my family didn't have chickens so we just chased ducks around... but you get the idea...makes you fleet of foot and flightily...of course when i was young we had guys like terry fox who went on to play for the miami seahawks which I'm sure you young kids haven't heard of... but anyway just remember the 40 time is bull****, doesn't make you a tough running back... what makes you great is your fleet footedness, which duke johnson has to be sure.

Lmao....these Carroll recruits?

2013- #13 switched to 3-4
2012- #61
2011- #54
2010- #83

Notice when the defensive numbers drastically improved for "Carroll's recruits"

.....keep slurping, though.

I was a little concerned that Duke ran a 4.55 but then I realized he just came back from the injury. Not in game shape yet, and wasn't supposed to run yet either. And hasn't been moving around for a while. I believe it was last spring Duke ran a high 4.3

I would be happy by the time fall camp is done if he is at the least running a low 4.4

Duke always been a 4.3 guy. Hope for a good recovery and for him to be back in game shape. Hope Yearby gets into game shape too. We need both of them.

And as for Carter. Im excited for him. Been rooting for him for a long time. Physical freak as his coach Don Soldinger said. Kid is ripped. Looks like Tarzan and as far as I seen plays like Tarzan. Nasty mean streak. Want to see how he does when it's game time and the lights are on, all the ability and talent is there. Exactly what we need back there. Was my favorite defensive recruit we got from the 2013 class.

Read this on Jamal Carter: http://miamiherald.typepad.com/umia...cruit-jamal-carter-in-line-at-southridge.html

Nice to see how much more serious he has become since he's stepped on campus.

Funny how the article says about the dream team secondary. Deon, Jamal, Tracy and Artie. I have a good feeling that's what our secondary will look like at some point this season.

And Dukes class he came in with. Time for some guys to be leaders like we expected from that 2012 class. Duke, Flowers, Deon, Tracy, Tyriq and others

Hate to break it to you... DUKE was never a 4.3 guy! Never! Him running a 4.55 coming off an injury and ten pounds heavier is insane! Due to practice and heat alone, he'll drop a few pounds over the summer. He'll be a 4.45 - 4.5 type guy.

Johnson isn’t physically impressive until he gets a ball in his hands, then just try to catch him. During freshmen tests, Johnson clocked 4.39 seconds in the 40-yard dash. But it’s his now-you-have-him, now-you-don’t quickness in creases and holes that sets him apart.

He has clocked in 4.3 here. I remember hearing he clocked in a 4.3 during his sophomore spring too. Forget where I saw it.

As I said. I would be at the least happy if he was clocking in low 4.4s by fall ball.

I'll add in. I always heard of him clocking in 4.3s and low 4.4s even since high school.

That 4.55 is coming off injury and not running around or moving much. Duke anywhere in the range of high 4.3 to low 4.4

Duke always been fast. Some of you really need to rewatch his tapes. Elite player. He makes this team way better when he's on the field.

Agreed. Like I mentioned his skills earlier in this thread, we have one **** of a back in duke. I feel as if some don't even appreciate. We're gonna miss him when he's playing on Sunday's.
