You're missing an absolutely huge fact that make those two situations completely different. We have a really solid RB in Deejay who is having a good season thus far, and have a strong RB behind him in Cam. We aren't in "need" of an RB right now, so if the coaches think he isn't fully healthy, OR isn't fully ready (scheme, playbook, blocking assignments, whatever it may be), OR simply that Deejay or Harris are better options for us right now, then it's an easy call for them to not bring Lo in (which is exactly what happened vs CMU; the staff has said point blank he WOULD have played if we had gotten in front like we expected to).I've been someone that supports getting Lo in the game, but also suggesting that the frustration to be able to do so at this point is misplaced, since he's been hurt. I'm not sure if Manny quite understands the inconsistency of his position on needing to keep Zion in there and getting Lo in the game. In one breath, he said that Lo needs to be able to do all the things required by a RB, including blocking, and through no fault of his own, is behind because of a lack of game reps vs. Bethune and Central Michigan. Then in almost the next breath, he says that Zion needs to continue to play because getting him game reps is so valuable and will help him improve. If those game reps are so valuable for purposes of helping guys get better, then doesn't logic follow that the only way for Lo to truly get better is to get those same game reps?
That's not the situation with Zion at all; in fact, it's the exact opposite. That's why we had an 18 year old kid at LT facing the gator pass rush. We have nobody else there, so all we can do is keep giving Zion reps and hope his play gets better. The situations aren't even remotely the same. Hence, the difference in comments on the two from Diaz. It's not rocket science, nor is it some huge conspiracy.
