Diaz names Williams the starter for FSU, says Pinckney and Dallas ready to play

I don't know what to think but I do know that Jarren needs to stop phucking around and take control of this starting gig and it has to start this Saturday. He is healthy now so he can't use that as an excuse. I am not asking him to go out there and all of a sudden look like Joe Burrow, but for Gods sake look like a QB that belongs to hold the title of starting QB at UM.

No more QB carousel. We haven't seen a complete, impressive game from Jarren this season. And B-CC, doesn't count. Sorry. He has a lot of fans that are in his corner, time for him to step up. No better time then to do it then against FSU where we are in "must win" mode for the rest of the season.

Bro; JW has one bad quarter. Lol. Like, I’m beyond frustrated w this dude as head coach right now. He’s completely botching this chit. U can’t say Jarren’s been our starting QB, but we reserve the right to start whoever does better in practice! WITF is he talking about?! I’m wondering how many practices Jimmy G was better than Brady or Hundley better than Aaron Rodgers. Lol! FML. This dude is truly a corch; Like fa real fa real. Idgaf if we beat FSPoo; Diaz’s pressers r clearly showing he don’t know what he’s doing.

Thats not moving crap. Everyone with 2 braincells to rub together knows what im referring to.

You said, "Name me 1 positive from this season and ill stop complaining. Just 1. That does not include punting for Gods sake."

That does not say "coaching positive". The fact that you then referenced punting makes it even clearer that you weren't talking about only about coaching (unless you think we've done a great job coaching punting, which would be weird).

Im on board with what Manny is doing with the QB's. Jarren is the starter but got pulled when he struggled. He IS a freshman after-all.

That’s exactly what u don’t do.

See Malzhan sticking w Bo Nix against Oregon. See Golden sticking w Kaaya. I feel only here fans have to justify stupidity from coaches.

Lmao. You cant gather by me talking about punting that i dont want to hear about individual players.

Im sorry for not breaking it down for you. We are talking about manny diaz. So sir id like someone to give me a positive about manny diaz. Then ill stop complaining about manny diaz.

In fairness to Diaz, Jarren only got pulled once and its because Diaz had no choice. We would have lost that VT game 56-0 if Diaz didn't get Jarren out of there.

I don't think he pulls Jarren this game. That said, if he does pull him then Diaz needs to let Jarren know that he isn't his guy anymore and if he wants to transfer, so be it. No more begging him to stay if you aren't going to fully be all in on the kid. Let him go on his way like we have everyone else who has wanted out.

He didn't pull him when he struggled. He pulled him when he struggled while he was (because he was?) hurt.

Then the kid got healthy, but went AWOL last week, so he started Perry. As he should have. When they needed a spark, they turned to Jarren. As they should have. And he put a drive together, he's healthy, so he's starting again.

The ONLY thing I'll criticize Manny and Enos on in this whole thing is playing Williams vs VT. If he was hurt, and too hurt to play the following weeks, why did he play that game? That's my criticism. But Williams was the better QB in camp and he's been the better QB in season. That's why Manny keeps saying, "He's our guy".

No thanks. Your schtick is predictable and transparent. The goal posts will continue to move. I'm happy to engage with other posters on this topic but there's 0 reason to believe you're interested in having this discussion in good faith.

So basically you cant answer and since you cant answer you say i dont want to talk about it. Lmao

Nut up dude. Be a man.

I don't know who Auburn has on the roster behind Bo Nix. I do know that UM had nobody behind Kaaya his freshman year. Williams was injured early in the season. That said, I was among the most vocal critics of Golden for not giving some playing time to Williams later in the year. And using Al Golden as your benchmark of good coaching decisions might not be the way you want to play this one. lol. j/k.

To the point though, I have no issue with how Manny has handled the QB's thus far.

I have plenty of answers. I bet if you searched my post history you would probably find one pretty quicky actually.

But try to be self-aware. You're a constant jackass on these boards. Is it really hard to believe that someone interested in having a good faith discussion about the team would not want to engage with you?

The only reason I haven't muted you is because I don't know how. After pressing send on this, I'll invest 30 seconds into looking for the mute button, though.

Nick Saban sent Jalen Hurts to the bench for a TF at halftime of the 2018 NC. When it works, you're a genius. When it fails, you're a chump. Nature of the beast. In the case of Manny, he's been failing a lot more than he's been succeeding, so the criticism is going to come, rightly so.

But when your QB1 is a RS Fr who throws 3 picks on 7 attempts to start a home game against a sorry, unranked team, I have no problem with a HC sitting his a$$ down. And I honestly don't care whether the coach has said "he's our guy" thirteen times that morning before he pulls him.

If the next QB (Perry) comes in and looks better than the starter, and a HC decides to ride the hot (and less bruised) hand, I have no problem with that either. And if at some point down the line the new starter looks like a$$ executing the offense and misses open WRs on critical 4th downs, and the old starter is healthy, and the HC decides to go back to him, that's fine by me, too.

At least nobody can say the HC is playing favorites (like some people said about Richt when he refused to bench Rosier; or like some people said about Shannon when he stuck by Harris). It may be inconsistent with prior talk about someone being "our QB" or whatever, but it is consistent with preaching accountability. I'm good with that.

I know this isn't in your post, Rel, but I saw somebody mention shaking a QB's confidence as a reason not to bench him. That's a ****-poor reason to keep an underperforming athlete in the game. I don't believe in coddling these young men to protect their confidence -- especially not at QB. If your confidence is so fragile that it gets shattered by a trip to the bench after you underperform, then maybe you should consider a job with UPS.

There is a long list of things Manny has been wrong about this year and corched, but I can't say that the QBs are being mismanaged. Though I concede the results on offense have been poor enough that the criticism isn't unfair.

Just to add to this, Jarren was hurt in that Va Tech game and the staff knew it. They let him start knowing he had a bad shoulder and changed the game plan to try and push the ball down the field. Not likely to end well...

Yeah, talk about a making a statement and contradicting it immediately. Your guy all season shouldn't be walking in eggshells every week. If Sicote Perry is consistently better over a span of time - make the change, obviously. But, this musical chairs is crazy
He is a Redshirt Freshman..guys that young do get complacent. So if jarren was showing any signs of that then I agree with the STAFFS which included his actual position coach, in sitting him..Do you think there’s ever a day we’re Trevor Lawrence or Tuas coaches can even make or need to make a statement like that..he’s a redshirt freshman

Good ****

Miami Hurricanes head coach Manny Diaz opened his Wednesday presser by naming Jarren Williams the starting QB for FSU on Saturday, ending any doubts after Williams came in in relief of N’Kosi Perry to lead UM to a win over Pitt last weekend.

“Quite simply, Jarren Williams has been our starting quarterback. At any starting position on the team, there is still a standard of preparation, and Jarren was beat out last week, that’s why N’Kosi was our starter vs. Pitt,” Diaz said. “I think it’s important for the University of Miami to have a guy at quarterback. Jarren has been our guy, but we also reserve the right to make sure everyone is competing on Greentree practice field, in meeting rooms, in everything that we do to the standard of the University of Miami.”

Diaz reiterated that Williams has always been the guy at QB for Miami, but outlined his policy that things can change on a week-to-week basis if another player has a stronger week of practice.

“I’ve said all along and never wavered on the fact that Jarren Williams is our starting quarterback. No different than Shaq Quarterman being our starting middle linebacker,” Diaz said. “However, there are things that can happen if another guy outworks you or outexceeds you. If you don’t do that, then you lose all credibility. That’s simply what the lesson of last week was about.

“One thing that Dan Enos has been in charge of is not just getting the offense right, but also changing the culture of how our quarterbacks prepare 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. We’re excited to have Jarren lead us out there against Florida State this Saturday.”

Did Williams have a better week of preparation this week?

“Outstanding week,” Diaz said of Williams.

Diaz also updated the status of LB Michael Pinckney and RB DeeJay Dallas, who both missed last week’s game vs. Pitt; however, Diaz expects both of them to play this week vs. FSU.

“They both look great, excited to have both those guys on Saturday,” Diaz said.

Tate Martell has been back with the team this week after missing last week’s games vs. Pitt for what the team termed a “medical leave of absence”. Martell is primarily working with the QB’s again after spending a few weeks mainly working with the receivers.

“He has the flexibility to go in there (at receiver) if we want him to, but he’s primarily spending his time with the quarterbacks,” Diaz said. “Where he felt he could help the team best was actually still having his feet in the QB room… He’s doing much better this week (since returning to the team). When he’s around us, he’s really positive, a very hard worker.”

When asked about a possible 2-QB system, Diaz didn’t rule it out if he felt it was necessary at some point down the line, but he feels it is most important to have one QB for the team to rally around.

“I’d like to see us get going and establish an identity,” Diaz said. “There’s been a gap in what we felt like coming out of training camp that would be the identity of our offense. It comes back to the importance of getting behind one guy. That’s why we’ve said, Jarren’s been our guy, and let’s get rolling.”

Redshirt freshman DE Gregory Rousseau continued his breakout season against Pitt last week, recording a career-high 3 sacks vs. the Panthers. Diaz relayed that, as Rousseau didn’t have much experience as a defensive end coming into Miami last season, the staff started Rousseau out watching film from some of the former DE’s that played in this system at Miami that are now in the NFL.

“You’re always going to show the guys that have come before him in this defense. We’ve had some really good guys that have come through here – Joe Jackson, Chad Thomas,” Diaz said. “We’ve now built a 4-year cut-up library of defensive end play, so there’s been some examples of how to get after the quarterback.

“As his confidence has grown, he has some things naturally where you don’t have to watch a video. His length, his movement skills are all elite… Young players think, older players go. Younger players are counting their dance steps, older players just let it rip... Once Greg realized he was so much stronger, and that ‘If I just cut it loose and let it rip, I’m really hard to block.’ So it’s been exciting to see him find his confidence in the games.”

Diaz also stated the recruitment of Rousseau reminded him of when he was back at NC State and the Wolfpack’s defensive staff went after and signed DE Manny Lawson, a long and athletic guy who also played a variety of positions in high school including WR; Lawson went on to become a first round draft pick in the NFL.

As for his first year of being a head coach, Diaz reflected on how things have gone for him in his rookie season thus far.

“It’s been a season of things that have been hard to predict. We’ve had a few years of adversity packed into a couple months. Some of that self-inflicted for sure,” Diaz said. “But what I have seen is a team that’s come together, I’ve seen a team that is starting to forge an identity. The way that we never quit, continue to fight, the way that we believe - I’m talking about offense, defense, special teams always trying to find a way to win the game, is something I’m proud of.”
Manny needs to shut his yapper. Sounds like a political monkey just talking to talk. Dude hasn't met a microphone he hasn't liked.

Go Canes!!!!!!!!
