Diaz comments on team after first scrimmage

Notes on the qbs
▪ Martell had the cleanest scrimmage in terms of not committing a turnover but was sacked a half dozen times and looked tentative when the pocket collapsed, the official said.

Martell had some success throwing underneath but didn’t do a lot of damage downfield. He gained decent yards on designed runs, but Greg Rousseau flustered him and was often in his face.

▪ That wasn’t Perry’s only turnover Sunday. The ball fell out of Perry’s hands when he ****ed his arm to throw it, resulting in a fumble.

One UM official said the big concern with Perry remains his penchant for turnovers, which was an issue last season and at times in practice last week.

If not for the turnovers, he might be clearly leading the competition. Then again, without the iceberg, the Titanic might have been a delightful cruise.

Nonetheless, Perry remains firmly in the starting race, and he did some nice things Sunday, including a few nifty touch passes and two really nice runs. He’s generally processing defenses better than a year ago.

▪ One observer thought Williams was narrowly the best Sunday but that it wasn’t clear cut and nobody has taken command of this QB battle. Besides the pick to Hall, Williams threw a couple of other passes that were near interceptions.
But the UM person said Williams showed good command of the offense and led a couple of long drives. Williams, like Perry, appears more serious and diligent about what’s expected of him than a year ago

It just goes to show that the “observer effect” can make a difference - one observer sees one thing and a different observer sees something else.

All this says to me is that it is still a three-man race

Sounds like the OL **** the bed again. Damnit mane.
@Trescerocinco told the board that yesterday that it wasn’t that good of a day for the oline .
We don’t know which unit it was in terms of 1st or 2nd team oline as all qbs worked with both offenses and keep in mind a touch sack most likely won’t be one in a live game .

Thank god wnos is deciding and no one else. We don’t know **** about the race really.

Ok and uf isnt gonna be Bethune on d. I want to beat uf and I’m glad they’re racing this d, but these same issues will show up when we play good defenses this year
Who said anything about Bethune? Plus Miami’s front 7 produce largely against anybody regardless of competition

Barry is generally accurate there but Martell didn’t run for his TD. It was a pass to Harley.

I also can’t put Jarren as the winner because of the pick and near picks. I still think he’s the most talented QB, but he needs to clean those issues up.

Sounds like all have issues that need to be cleaned up this week which makes sense given mannys quote.

You didn’t get my point. This ol will see a talented d on 8/24. If they struggled as badly as it’s being worded, it’s gonna be tough come 8/24. I know our d is good and I’m not questioning that. I don’t think our ol is any good and I’m hoping to be wrong
