Devante Bond

BTW official size is 6'2 229 llbs. Coaches confirmed it on the visit.

With that being the case, I just dont care for the kid. I feel a second year McCord and possibly even Holiett would be just as effective.

I don't like Matthew Thomas either.
The difference being #6 is a much better player, 2 years younger, and more versatile. I was under the impression that what we needed from Bond was to be a pass rushing threat that can come in and help immediately. With that size he would be a situational pass rusher at best. I was hoping for the 6'3 235 measurables Rivals had posted in his profile.

And what is wrong with that? Have you seen us trying to get off the field on 3rd down?

Precisely his purpose.

If you've watched the young man's highlights, there should be no reservations about his size.

Bruce Irvin is 6-3 245 and playing DE for the Seahwaks. He was the 15th pick in this past draft and has 8 sacks.

Now I'm not comparing Bond to Irvin, just stating that height and weight aren't the only standard. Does he have quick feet, burst, long arms, technique? Getting to the qb is the most paid position in the Nfl, outside of the qb himself. If he can do this I don't care if he John Square's ghost, we need rushers.

This. i just wanna see the QB getting pressure in his face and stop having all day to pass and look like 07 record setting Tom brady out there against us..

Bond wears shirts like this buttoned all the way up to the top.

Jarvis Jones is listed at 241, not saying Bond is the next Jones, but size-wise there isn't much of a difference.

So Bond playing LB or DE? if its DE then your guys comparison because everyone mentioned so far played OLB. Also Matt Thomas ***** on Bond.

If he drinks a super big gulp and a 1/4lb hot dog with chili and cheese he would be at 235lbs.

Awesome, I know they do that on the officials. Looking at his film and knowing how jucos can fib a little ( remember kayne f. at 6'2 but looked more 5'10) I was afraid he was more 6 feet.

You can work with 6'2 230. He would be around 240 by gameday, that size with his impressive film. DO. WANT.

This thread is hilarious.

Are people knocking this kid already?

I'll take 6'2" 230 right now rushing. That is bigger than*McCord, Terry, Cornelius, That Walk On African Guy, or any other guy we had rushing the passer and mostly getting stuffed.

Let the kid play first. No one was talking about Eddie Johnson or Ladarius Gunter before the season started.

And Jimmy Gaines will have 90+ tackles next year FTW

Yes, but he has to get off blocks. A 230 lbs hybrid is different from a 265 lbs end. A fullback or a running back might be able to pick a 230 lbs guy off. Even if he's fast, a tackle or TE might be able to redirect him enough to make him useless. 230 can be OK but it depends on how strong and physical he is.

How is 6'2 230 for a LB undersized?

I looked at him as a LB/DE hybrid that would give us a much needed pass rush.

Hes the same size at the same stage as von miller.. guess hes not good either
Look, now you are completely twisting my words. I said undersized for a DE and I stand by that. As far as I see it our two biggest holes on the team that we have right now where we need to go the Juco route for immediate help is at DT and at DE. Bond was the one guy that fit more of a DE type player that was on the radar. From the get he was a LB/DE hybrid but I was hoping that he could be big enough to be an every down smaller DE in the mold of say a Mingo from LSU, and this confirms he is not. That is all I insinuated. I never said he was small for a LB, never, yet then i get these comments regarding #6 and Von Miller. We have LBs, and if we need any help there it's in the department of coverage, which is where Country and #6 come into the picture. Now I'm not saying that a player like Bond couldn't help this team as a situational rusher because he can and I trust the coaches. What I am saying is that one of our biggest needs is a true pass rushing DE, and this kid's size dictates that he is not that guy. I was hoping that he was 6'3 235 that by the time fall came around could be 6'3 245 and be serviceable at DE in other situations than just 3rd and long. Essentially I was hoping this guy could step in at DE so that our expectations of McCord and Holliet are not unrealistic, but he just won't.

What are you talking about? Why are you talking about a 265 lb DE? OMG said Irvin was a 245 lb DE playing in the NFL. Bond can play rush OLB in college at 230 (at that's assuming he gains NO weight between now and the first game of the season). Don't compare Bond to a tradition DE. Like somebody said, he's more in the role of Von Miller and at this point in their careers they're the same size. ****, he's still only listed as 6'3 237 on his NFL.com bio.

James Harrison is 6'0, 240 playing rush OLB and I think he's OK. Jarvis Jones is an AP All-American and he's listed at 241. Bond can't gain 10 pounds? You guys are making too much of his current weight.

lets not forget, there's also 8 months until our next game. More than enough time for someone to add 15 pounds easily
