Devante Bond Named JUCO ALL-AMERICAN

The 2013 defense is going to be a problem....in a good way!

I hope Golden can some how pull in another big signing day surprise this yr but on the D line.

Lets Go!

I think it needs one more class to really be a top D

two stud DTackles and we are good to go! The thing that set our teams over the top in the late 90's and 2000's. Damione Lewis commiting was huge. We need someone like him soon.

Kid has a knack to the ball. I lost track of him a couple times only to see him jump up after the play. Very intense player.

I looked at 35 plays on the highlight tape:

- He stood up basically the entire time.
- He faced a LT twice (2)
- He faced a RT 16 times
- He either was a blitzing LB or faced a TE 13 times
- He was in coverage or played LB in space 4 times

Things that stood out:

- He will either have to severely adjust his playing style or D'Onofrio will have to adjust his scheme because he plays the 9-technique almost 90% of his highlights and goes directly upfield. (this is the most important thing)
- He uses his hands much better than I thought he would for a guy who's 6' 2"ish and less than 235 pounds.
- Last time we had a guy with these types of attributes was Marcus Robinson
- He looked more comfortable in space than I thought he would, so the Hybrid position is going to really be interesting.

I have a very basic question: what defense do we run? Do we run a hybrid 4-3 where the front changes from time to time, or do we run a mix of 4-3 and 3-4?

Marcus Robinson would've been a really, really good player for us had we used him correctly. i.e. not an every-down, hand in the dirt, DE.

Seems like it's a 4-3 but he wants to run multiple defenses with some 3-4 looks included. We have not had the horses to run that defense yet.

Irvin is longer. Watching Irvin rush the passer looks more like what I expect from AQM in a couple years.

Agreed, although I think AQM could more of an every down player than Irvin. I figure in 2015 that AQM is up to 255-260.

Bond seems more like a Freeney-type, no? Short, stocky build and explosive. Those guys can be tougher for left tackles to block because they get great leverage and can get under those 6'6" left tackle types.

Bond is just like Bruce just a stand up end the both use the speed rush with a dip and rip technique.

HAIL to the naw. Freeney is an athletic freak of nature. I can't even think of anyone with his athletic profile. In his prime, dude was a legit 260+ at 6'1 and running a 4.5. I can't think of anyone with that profile.

I wonder if Dorito will make him drop into a soft zone every play, or start attacking on defense.

The majority of our base defense was a 4-3 under with the SLB (Eddie/Armbrister) on the line over the TE, Bond would seemingly fit that spot very well, as well as the role Terry played on passing downs last year.

I think of Bond as like a James Harrison type LB. Shorter LB, not much in coverage, but more setting the edge and coming hard upfield every play

I always wanted him to be the MIKE from the getgo.

Thanks for the info OP.

Ay, that boy Devante Bond best be on the podcast next week...

I wanna know what dance he did when he committed to the U.

2 freshmen DTs will not be studs on day 1. They have to develope them and that takes time, this aint HS anymore. Suh took until his final year to be a beast. We need Pierre and Porter to make a huge leap I mean huge leap to be a top D.

Ca JUCO football is the best in the country, and Sierra College is up by Northeast Sacramento, off i-80. the 49ers used to camp there back in the day.

the highlights are like others mentioned:
he stands up as a rush end and lights up QBs and RBs with malice
