Derrick Henry

He is almost 250 and not in a college strength program.

If this is true, he´s gonna have a hard time not growing into a DT or OL. Who´s the last kid anyone remembers entering their senior year in HS at 250 and not growing into a 300lb college junior?

Kid would make a nice part-time tailback

Line him up at fullback or h-back most downs, tailback for short yardage or change-of-pace

Feels like another J. Wilder, great athlete, great high school RB, but better suited to play another position in college and just doesn't want to listen to anyone else. Henry should ask Wilder how that bench at FSU feels.

Bingo...kid should be on D but insists on RB. Wilder is perfect example...

Or, going back a decade, Joe Cohen.

Henry isn't nearly as physical/tough as Wilder, and has limited experience on defense. He is a much better athlete though and has more skill with the ball in his hands. His best position imo is TE because he's a matchup nightmare. Against man coverage he could use his size and speed to threaten the seam, and against zone coverage he can find soft spots and use his running ability to make plays after the catch. He's effortless in the open field and has a nose for the endzone. He's a BCS starting caliber back but he's not Alex Collins good...watch Collins' recent highlights on SunshinePreps...that's a top-5 caliber at his position, arguably 5* player.

Charles Clay should be his roll model. Clay was recruited as a LB and ended his career at Tulsa as a FB/TE and caught and ran the ball effectively, posting some nice numbers.

I also think the kid would be an animal at TE with his ability after the catch.

His hands aren't very good

I'm well aware, and his TE workouts this summer on the camp circuit were supposedly subpar, but all that stuff is easily learned through repetition in practice. Henry isn't lacking the work ethic to learn.
