Derrick Green will visit

Not really big on this kid at all, his film is pretty terrible but if the staff likes him then that's good enough.

We have minutes to offer by the bunches. I like our chances at getting a good compliment to Duke.

His senior highlights just came out

Looks very good to me. Obviously a power guy but has the speed to break long runs *kanyeshrug*

Not the quickest first step, but he's got good balance, vision, and giddy up. Maybe it's just me, but he doesn't run like a power back. He runs with a lot more finesse than I expected from a back his size. That's not necessarily a bad thing.

reminded me a lot of Mike James with some of those spins and cuts

It'd be great to have him. I'm just not sold on an out of state 5-star guy, with no ties to UM, being genuinely interested in us.

I saw Derrick Green on ESPN and he dominated that game, those on here that say they "aren't big on him" are just Alex Collins cheerleaders

How could you say his film is terrible?

I'm shocked at how bad his film is. He rarely makes anybody miss, shows almost no explosive cuts, and for a big back, isn't a very violent runner. He doesn't take anything outside and then cut hard upfield, he doesn't stop on a dime and make a guy miss, and he seems pretty slow footed. Just my opinion, but he doesn't show any attributes of a RB that I'd be excited about. He plays in high school how Mike James played until this year...and if you play like that in HS, that is bad news. Again, if the staff wants him, I hope he comes, but I'm going to be pretty skeptical of how he will do here. He might be able to fill the power back role okay but he isn't even that powerful running the ball in his highlights.

weownfsu I have to agree film was unimpressive at second glance. I can't sugar coat this. He looked average. I was thinking if Alex was playing that competition he would be running all over the place.

^^^ Don't worry about making since, weownfsu is "shocked" lol......

Derrick Green weighing 220lbs, running like a bull and always falling forward when contact is made just isn't impressive at all..... lol

he's comparing Green running behind a small o-line, in a one back offense, and dominating, to Alex Collins who couldn't even get his team in position to score a single point against Miramar SMH.

WeOwn is right. I had the same reaction when I watched him. Very underwhelming.

Some backs don't make people miss...remember Maurice Clarett? Think Maurice Clarett with better speed

lol. Maurice Clarett is a TERRIBLE comparison. Green isn't even a powerful runner and Maurice Clarett had great footwork, among the best you'll see at the college level. You equate "make people miss" with big jukes, but it's actually being able to make the little cuts that give a RB an advantage, which Clarett was great at because he wasn't exactly a "power" runner either although he could lay the wood. Clarett was actually great at making people miss. Green does neither. Clarett also had great vision and hit the hole really hard, Green runs right into everyone and isn't even good at running into people. He gets brought down pretty easily. He's the most average 5 star RB I've seen since I started following recruiting 10 years ago. That said, if we want him I hope we get him and it seems like we have a good shot if he comes to campus.

Listen, I'm in the same camp that says Collins is on a different level, I just don't think Green is nearly as bad as some of you claim.

I'm obviously missing what you're talking about. I'll saw a bunch of examples of good feet in that video

1:35 Multiple Cuts in a short area
2:25 Another short area horizontal jump cut into the whole exhibiting vision as well
2:57 Makes a great horizontal cut to elude defender, just doesn't exhibit acceleration to separate (which is what separates him from Collins IMO)
3:18 Once again another jump cut
5:42 Multiple cuts in the short area and also exhibits some balance

Kid's got good feet. Is he Duke or Sony? No...but his size/feet combo are impressive and the fact that he has feet to go with is impressive.

I disagree and think he has average to bad feet. I never said the kid can't make multiple cuts, but it is rare when he does and he shows no explosiveness out of them. 9/10 plays he is running right into whoever is in front of him -- he has meh vision. He has good size, but that's about all I see in that video. There's just nothing that stands out about him.

You brought up Maurice Clarett, but he is actually a terrible comparison. However, Clarett does a good job of demonstrating what I don't see in Green at all:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k-UvO6tS0II

Go to 1:33. That cut is explosive and demonstrates Clarett's incredible vision. I don't expect many RB's to have vision like that, or be able to cut like that, but that just shows why Clarett was an awful comparison. Those are the traits that separate okay RB's from good RB's and great RB's from good RB's. If you're the #1 RB in the country, I expect you to look more dynamic than basically being a carbon copy of 2009-2010 Mike James.

I've seen HS monsters turn out to be duds and no-names turn out to be studs.

The fact is, this kid has measurables/skills and he we have the coach to help fine tune his craft. Crazy is that he has offers from 51% of all BCS schools. I think I'll take their opinions over someone with 10 years of recruiting.

This offers excuse isn't a good one and its the same thing that came up in regards to Greg Bryant.

If a kid is listed as a 5 star recruit as a junior he is most likely going to get offered by every OOS program just based on that and limited evals. Offer sheets are good to look at but it also should be considered who is willing to take guys right now, not when they offered a year+ ago.

Not a knock on Green, just a general statement.
