Golden straight mind ****s these kids raw dawg,

*Another interesting move on the other side. Receiver Kendal Thompkins, a fifth-year senior, is now listed on top with an OR between his name and sophomore Rashawn Scott's.

As I have perused the board I've always been told that Thompkins sucks and needs to be booted off the team. How has this passed by everyone without comment?

Golden said in today's interview with Joe Rose that he's still having to do much one-on-one "counseling" with these kids. He says there are still some players that think they can do whatever in practice and still see the field come game days.

Also said there are a good battles between Green and Cain at DE and Johnson and Armbrister at one of the LB spots.

Flowers must be a baller. Johnson and Jones have been here for 17 years and Flowers comes in right in and grabs the spot.

As good as any tackle that came out last year IMO.

Granted that opinion is biased and only slightly coherent, but its my opinion.

For real though go look at all world 6 star John The us and tell me how he is any better than Flowers.

Actually, Thompkins has been a GreenTree Pro-Bowler for 3 years now. Dude is a stud in practice.

We should be playing for 2013. Absolutely no need to play any senior Shammin has-beens and also-rans unless we have nobody else or unless they truly shine.

Good way to lose your team. If you want to breed competition then you can't play favorites. You create the competition and let the cream rise to the top. I don't care if the cream is a Randy kid that's bought in and is putting in the work. It's not their fault Randy was incompetent. They chose to be a Cane and if they battle and win the starting position then more power to them.

Just a few quick thoughts:

1. Playing freshmen usually spells trouble in the near-term. The flip side of that is the reps that they get early on are invaluable down the road, particularly when you're dealing with game-changers like Duke, Flowers, and Howard. The future is bright, but you have to see past the early ups and downs.

2. Just like everyone else is saying, Porter is a key piece of the DT rotation. We need depth and people in the rotation there who are competent and capable.

3. Henderson is another guy. You can't have enough big bodies. Morris is going to need help. Flowers might never give up his spot, but we still need quality depth.

4. We're going to be in deep isht on defense. If they play fundamentally sound defense, tackle well, and have a nice scheme, then I think we'll be okay at best. We aren't going to be able generate quality pressure of the edge which is going to spell trouble for us.

5. Morris needs to have an incredible year, and we're going to have pound the ground game in order to help our defense out.

It's also the opinion of Bakas, who by the end of last year had him rated the top OL in the state, ahead of Theus (also had him rated 5th best player in the state, IIRC). Not only does Flowers have the skill set, but he has all the intangibles: a terrific work ethic, a great attitude and a very strong competitive drive.
He has a strangehold on that RT position and he ain't letting go. He's beaten out JJohnson, who Golden said has had a great summer and fall. I saw the kid at Canesfest and he certainly looks the part.

Regarding Porter, Golden said today he had health issues and that they're "being careful" with him. Doesn't sound to me like he's gonna be out a long time. Then again I'm not a doctor and I don't know what the "health issue" is.

I was going to disagree with your point about Morris having to be a stud, but the more I thought about it, the more I think you're dead on.

We're not going to beat KSU or Notre Dame or any decent team playing conservative smallball. It's unfair to the kid, but he's going to have one game to get up to speed and then he's got to start slinging it. Most of our opponents are going to stack the **** out of the box unless we prove we can do something on the outside through the passing game. Gonna be veeeery interesting to see how our offense unfolds.

I agree that we are going to need Morris to play lights out football to get above .500. We have way too many question marks everywhere else on the roster, he needs to be the glue that holds the ship together.

Defenses better respect the run or pass or they're going to get burned for six. A good O-line with good QB play can go far when you got speedsters who can take it to the house. This team is going to surprise some people this year.
