I know we tried this experiment 2 years ago and DP seemed to disappear and get engulfed by blockers and didn't really play well until he was moved back to WLB. I understand he was lighter at about 215 per Golden, but the MLB position is a different animal to playing outside. You need to shed more blocks and work through more traffic and you are also responsible for making the defensive calls.

Will this season be different? I understand you want your most valuable LB in the middle, but what makes him our best LB is his ability to go sideline to sideline and track the ball carrier better than our other LB's.

Can Kirby or Grace fill that role on the outside? I hope so, but neither have much experience and Grace still remains a little light in the *** at 215. Maybe a young guy like Darrion Owens makes an immediate impact, or Figatron stays healthy and can make an impact at the other LB spot.

Thoughts? What can we expect from DP this season?

DP52 is ready for MLB trust me. he wasnt ready 2 years ago. we needed him to move in the middle to get more playmakers on the field.

The difference between him and Gaines will be night and day. I like Gaines but I've never seen a MLB be in the wrong gap so much in my life. I hope DP's been working on his drops and pass defense. He was atrocious last year. I think the pass rush will help him out too.

OP our LBs are no where near the top of the list of my concerns with this team. To your questions, yes I think Perryman will do fine at MLB, and I think Figatron, Grace, and Kirby and the rest of our backers will be fine as well. I'm actually happy Grace isn't huge because he is probably one of our better LBs in coverage. We don't want him to lose his mobility. In fact, playing against spread option teams, you would think you'd want your LBs to be as quick (short area) as possible. Weighing a ton is counterintuitive to me, but admittedly I'm not a football guru.

LB isn't a huge concern for either, honestly just bored with the constant *****ing and complaining and was trying to spark some conversation.

Agree with you about Grace, we need him in coverage this season as our LB's struggled to cover anyone last season.

I'm just not sure DP is the type of LB to work the middle, hope I'm wrong because we really need his physicality out there producing. Also agree DP will be a big upgrade over Gaines, but that's not saying a ton. I hope the light goes on for him at MLB and he has an all-american like season.

What makes you think he's ready?

he is our most consistent linebacker and is the leader of the team MLB are typically QBs of the defense. he was the OLB and making calls. while his side was good. the other side of the line was messing up. he can direct players and help players understand better and quicker. his pass coverage skills are not that good so ill rather him stay in the middle then try and run every play with a WR or TE. I think Kirby is more of natural OLB. he can run sideline to sideline. his awareness is really good. i believe he can fight through traffic. He is going to be 3rd-4th round linebacker. depending on the year. maybe higher.

DP played 2 years a OLB and was monster; one year at MLB and not much. I wonder if the move is more about staff's failure to have any good MLBs or DP's ability to play MLB.

What specific games are you referring to? I need ocular proof.

I really think its about getting more playmakers on the field. who would you want Jawand Blue or Jermaine Grace in the game? depending the position thats more stacked. you tend to move your best players to a position of need.

wasnt speaking of Kirby moving sideline to sideline. after saying he was a Natural OLB thats all i have on Kirby.

Players will play. He will be more then fine and the leader of the defense. I like him in the middle much more. You can't run away from him.
