Defensive stat

I miss the old days of LBs blitzing through the same gap with no contain on the opposite side and safeties delaying and coming from 14 yards off the ball. It was always like a kick in the nuts when a QB would either scramble for 30 yards or simply hit the receiver running free in the opening created by the blitz. 4th and 14 still wakes me up some nights.

aTm qb was superb. Watched replay last night
He was hit and pressured all night and threw 1, maybe 2 poor passes.

On D we need to seriously tighten up middle of field. W stunts at DL, we ran ourselves wide and there was NO ONE home inside. A running qb will devour us, and a good TE will feast.
We also were caught too many times by RB out of the backfield. And, yes, it comes down to a numbers game. But our backers and safties need to be weary, as aTm left a few points on the field

Cannot wait to see what we can do against lesser lines though
Was going to say the same thing. He’s a player. He made several throws with pressure in his face, off platform, and sped up. NFL guy for sure. I think we got one sack all day even though we had plenty of pressure. He has a quick release and an ability to stay on his feet

You have to give Weigman credit. That kid was under pressure all game and he still managed to make a ton of plays. Kid has a strong arm and isn't shy about firing into tight windows. He's smart, accurate and very mobile. He's going to be a good one.

They're all doom and gloom but he's a great QB. I'd be excited about it if I was a fan. Dude was the toughest guy on their team and he's going to win them some games.

If you are going to blitz you have to get home. Miami was successful most of the time. Sorry not like when Manny would get burnt blitzing too much. Plus the contain on Weigman was good also. He did not have any long runs. CMC said the pass rush was not as good after Mesidor left the game. I would have like to have had a couple sacks but the pressure was enough to keep Weigman from lighting it up. Take away the 10 points from the early kicking game mistakes and the defense only gave up 23 points. Going to win a ton of games holding the other team to 23 or less.
We are also running a lot more zone blitzes which is why you are seeing D-ends drop back into coverage. It is still risky but not nearly as risky as Manny running jail break blitzes and leaving open space behind the blitz.

I think we will be better than giving up 23 points per game, though I agree with your point that with this offense we should always be able to score more than 23. But we also just played one of the best offensive minds in football against Neck Brace Petrino. TAMU might be one of the better offenses we play this season

We absolutely beat the **** out of their qb. Imagine if we sacked him like 5 times.

Now, if we could just not be held without penalties all game….

All game, every game.

This ended up being a big play from A&M.

What I’ve noticed through two games is even when the QBs make a play, it’s never easy

For years we would apply pressure but often it really wasn’t a tough play for the QB if he just kept his wits. Someone was usually wide open even on 3rd and long

I don’t see a lot of easy yardage for the offenses against Guidry so far

The different looks, going with pressure and then to a shell and then back to pressure. All makes it almost impossible for teams to get into a rhythm offensively.

Cristobal not only getting good coordinators but ones that fit our personnel makes up for hiring Gattis. Guidry is made for Miami. His style fits us to a T. He doesnt just blitz like Manny. His coverages are sound and he preaches DL rush lane integrity.

And Dawson is earning his respect after Houston fans were celebrating him leaving.

I saw that from my seat. I was screaming as loud as I possibly could. If I recall correctly, A&M got a big 3rd down conversion on that play.

I think that’s when Davis forced the fumble too

Are they still celebrating him being gone now? Their offense has been **** all year

Very tough kid. He’s got a future at the position for sure
