Does anyone know for sure if Deandre Johnson is eligible to play this year? i.e. did he get a waiver from Iowa?*

Please don't reply with the statement, "He's a walk-on, so it is unnecessary." That would not be accurate.

Would love to see him possibly be some competition to spell Duke.

If he was paying is own way he is eligible. The only time transfer rules apply is if there is a scholly given at the new school. Also, he was dismissed before the start of last season, so he sat out all of 2012.

Sorry, but that is not true! That is exactly why I wrote the above caveat. He still needs a waiver.

Actually that is true. If he's walking on and not receiving an athletic scholarship then he doesn't require a waiver.

The NCAA transfer rule applies to 'participation', i.e. eligibility to play. It does NOT apply to receiving financial aid (scholarship). Whether he pays, or the university pays is irrelevant to his 'eligibility' to play without a waiver from the one year residency requirement.

I'd neg the **** out of this font changing **** who can't even google if it wasn't the first day of camp and my rep clip wasn't already all used up.

Even if he attended a JUCO, he still would have had to successfully completed 12 credit hours in two semesters to be eligible. It's known as the 4-2-4 Rule.

According to UM SID, he DID NOT attend JUCO. Came directly from Iowa. That means he must receive a waiver to play this year. It DOES NOT matter if he is on schollie, or not!

Ferentz dismissed him August 1, 2012. He didn't play last year. Didn't even practice for the fall. He doesn't need a waiver. He has already sat out a year.

'Sitting out a year' is NOT the rule! With all due respect to all critics of my post, you are invited to read the rule --- not just post without knowlege.
The transfering student-athlete must be 'in residence' at the transfering school as a full-time student for 2 semesters to be eligible to participate in contest (play). The exception is the 'one time transfer' rule, which requires a 'release & waiver' from the previous institution (or NCAA if appealed.)
Maybe Peter can find out if he is eligible this year.
