With the Hurricanes scheduled to play in frigid Pittsburgh on Friday afternoon and temperatures expected to be in the 30s, Gilbert has been asked by teammates quite a bit this week about dealing with the cold. He said he has laughed at some of the questions and tells teammates “just be mentally strong.”

FFS, yes please, just be mentally strong.

I'm from Chicago... the cold is not an issue. The field freezing over and feeling like your getting tackled/slammed into concrete is an issue.
We just need to be the ones doing the slamming and we will be fine. ;)

He keeps using that word...I don't think it means (to the team anyway) what he thinks it means.

You're from Chicago, the players are not. I grew up in Miami, went to college in New Orleans and grad school in Tallahassee before moving to Chicago for 4 years. I never got used to the cold. From walking the dog to playing soccer outside in the cold, I was miserable. You're kidding yourself if you think it's not a factor at all.

I play football here in Korea and it was in the 20's honestly not that bad when you're on the field. And we had no fancy sideline warmers. The only ***** is the turf burn so under armour is a MUST!!

Normally I wold worry about the cold effecting our play. But given the last 3 weeks, I am hoping if does! I mean, can it really get worse?

Well... yeah, now that I see it from your perspective this could be an issue for some players. I have been here all my life and I was only speaking from heart and reflecting back on my high school playing days. The only thing that bothered me was that the nice soft field in late August / early September was not so nice and soft to me in December.

Does anybody have any tips for dressing to play in the cold.
Please don't use the macho sheet about bare arms and no gloves.
These Miami boys are not going to ignore the cold.
I remember reading about Joe Namath wearing panty hose for warmth. There must be a more modern high tech answer by now.
Any other tips would be appreciated.

I'm from Tampa and moved to the Burgh and I was out building snowmen in the snow yesterday with shorts and a hoodie. If we can't win a football game because of that, then we just suck and weather is not the reason.

Underarmour heatgear should be enough honestly. 30 isn't that bad since the humidity isn't what it is in the Gables

Get some long sleeve under armors and some gloves. They'll be ok once they start warming up. The only time it starts to get cold is when you take off your shoulder pads. Source: TC Williams High School football in Alexandria, Virginia

It's not like we've played all that great when it's hot out either, or rainy or dry conditions. Just win the **** game.

Already coming up with excuses. Put a God damned hoody on and play some ******* ball.
