David Thompson will do spring ball

If Thompson dedicates himself to football he's going to shock a lot of you cats. That dude is the best prospect we have behind Morris. He's a REALLY good athlete who could add some different dimensions to the offense.

Chise knows whats up. I've been a fan of this kid since he got here. I'm telling you, if this kid decides to take football seriously, he is the QB of the future to the dismay of baby jesus followers and dewey fans. David Thompson is forreal.

I don't know who this smart dude 919 is, but he gets it. Thompson is Russell Wilson, but he ain't scared to run.

Did we just become best friends? Do you wanna do karate in the garage?

If he hasn't dedicated himself yet then I doubt he ever will.

You must be confused, Thompson is currently a Freshman who has been on the team for one semester. His lack of dedication is due to being a dual sport athlete. What Franchise is saying is that if he gives up baseball he will be good

My best friend coached the Oline for Irvin when David was a junior and senior and he swears by him. This kid is legit, if he played a week of spring football he'd be the #2 QB behind Morris no doubt. I'm NOT comparing him to Johnny Manziel skills and what not, but he has that x factor about him when he plays that can't be described just like JFF does.

Also, kids the top 3rd base prospect in the country for his age, this kid has accuracy and a rocket arm. (Stephen Morris played baseball at Pace which is an extremely competitive program, having that baseball background like thompson, that's the same reason why Morris has a huge arm)

I don't know that he's not dedicated to football. He was never going to abandon baseball completely. But neither did Russell Wilson, and he did well. He hurt his shoulder last year and had surgery, so he missed his entire freshman football season.

Anyone who dogs this kid hasn't watched the tape and should shut their mouth. This is becoming Grassy in a hurry.

I don't know why we're counting out Thompson already at QB when we haven't even seen him take a snap.

Give the kid a chance.

FWIW, I saw Ryan Williams at the UM gym yesterday and he does NOT look like a college QB.

He looks like that tall pudgy dude that you play pick up basketball with and you only pick him because he can grab rebounds and play D.

Dude needs to hit the weights BIG TIME.

With QBs its more about brains than brawn. Not saying he's at the level, but just showing how its a useless statistic, Tom Brady's Draft Combine Pic:

exactly

I've been really curious about Thompson since he got here. Frankly, I was surprised that he signed here thinking that he was going to go baseball all the way. Kid is a major league prospect but also a tremendous qb. I hope he plays this spring - he should be able to supplant Dewey, at least

If flippin' Kyle Parker could play Baseball and start at QB for Clemson, I'm pretty sure David Thompson can too.

He should be given a chance, at least.

I just don't see a future with Ryan Williams.

Brady was a ONCE in a lifetime thing.

QBs like him don't come around every day.

He's an anomaly.

I agree. If he only played football I think he would be really good. That said, baseball is his money maker and he can't concentrate on football so who knows what that means for his football prospects.

lol interdasting

i have heard he is very much like tebow, but he doesnt throw like a ******

One step at a time guys. He's just this side of shoulder surgery on his throwing arm and baseball gives him the opp to strengthen the arm without taking hits on it right now. They've held him out of certain drills at the beginning of rehab to spare him unneeded contact, gradually increasing the activity. These are not things you just blatantly rush for the sake of pleasing fans "dedication" to football assessments. Right now healing, strengthening, and using baseball to do it is it. Way too early to draw conclusions.

I did read that about him - that he's a very talented football player.

The problem is that he's clearly never going to fully dedicate himself to football. He's here to play baseball.

YES! From the football powerhouse (And A-Rod and my high school alma mater) Westminster Christian School *******!!!

Why can't he just be on a baseball scholie? It's not like he played a single football snap. This is a huge waste.

I'm pretty sure he can be on a baseball schollie as long as he doesn't play a single down of football. One play in football and his schollie would have to become a football one though.

The only thing that could change that is/was his recruitment. I'm not sure, and can't remember, if he was ever actually recruited by Golden to play football, or if he was recruited for baseball by Morris with the assumption he'd walk on to play football. If Golden had contact with him at all I'm pretty sure he has to be on football schollie. Think how corch RS was with Latwan Anderson, answering every question about him with "he's a track guy" and having zero contact with him.

I like this kid a lot... he might not be a good quarterback but he's a GREAT football player and just knows how to win! He is a more athletic and Kyle Parker... a little better size and speed also! I wouldnt be surprised if he stayed on the grid iron if he's our Qb one day!

He was recruited by the football staff, therefor he counts as a football scholarship regardless of him playing a down or not. If he decides to give up football in the summer then his scholarship in football can expire.

You don't know that. There have been guys over the years who played baseball and football and did just fine. Think Russell Wilson.

Let me clarify my "dedicate" comment. By using that term, I meant that if he stays with football and doesn't go only baseball he's immediately our 2nd best QB behind Morris.

I feel that way as well, but he needs to spend more time on football IMO. I get that he's a baseball player, but kid missed the entire fall with a torn labrum, puts him way behind the other guys.
